[Hoop District] Michael Winger was extremely complimentary of Wes Unseld Jr. Winger interviewed WUJ in 2020 for the Clippers job and called it a “blessing” to have him in DC now, which was part of the reason he found the Washington opening appealing “He’s a brilliant tactician.”

I love coach Unseld. I just hope he can get a fair shot with a completely bought in roster.

Jokic and Malone have also spoken very highly of him as well

I know the first two years with Unseld haven’t been ideal, but it sometimes takes awhile. Michael Malone missed the playoffs three straight years when he started as the Nuggets coach and now has them in the NBA Finals. I’m not saying that’ll happen for the Wiz, but one can hope with this new Front office we may finally be on the right path.

The #FireWes fans are not gonna like this.

Personally I think you should probably give the coach with a great player development reputation some good players to develop. Just a thought. He’s done a good job with Corey and Goodwin, but their ceiling is kind of low. Get him some guys with star potential and let him cook.

I think his schemes in general are okay, I like the late drop defense he developed with Gaff and KP. It maximizes the rim protection advantage from having those guys on your team. On the other hand I think it gives up far too many disadvantageous matchups where the opposing offense can get whatever matchup they want. He needs multiple players who are decent defenders to make a switch defense work as opposed to just having Delon, Goodwin and Deni who are capable. I think he should go back to playing 1 big man at a time and save the KP/Gaff combo for teams with size like the Nuggets.

He also figured out the offense for a brief period before the all-star break, then for some reason after the break everyone looked like they’d forgotten how to play together. It was very strange.
