  1. I agree that it's bad for business long term if small market teams start acting as a farm system for other teams, but I'm not sure I agree about future players being apprehensive about signing extensions. For one, this happens throughout the entire NBA, not just the Spurs. Secondly, the Spurs were trading these players so that they could tank for Wemby. They got Wemby, so no need to tank anymore. If they trade players now it'll be to make the Spurs better, not worse. That's the difference in this case. Finally, the players still get their money, traded or not. If the Spurs offer Vassell a 4 year/100 million dollar extension, do you really think he's going to turn down that kind of money just because he might get traded at some point? Not a chance.

  2. What about a three-team trade where we trade Blake to the Clippers with our Hornets first-round pick next year, our 2024 Pelicans second-round pick, our 2025 Bulls first-round pick, our Spurs 2025 1st round pick and all of our 2025 2nd round picks – They trade Paul George to the Blazers and Batum to us and the Blazers trade Grant to the Clippers and We get the number 3 pick this year and a 2028 pick swap with a top 3 protected from the Blazers.
I don't know if the salaries work but I think it would be enticing for all three teams if what the media is saying is true about the individual franchise's focus moving forward in the next 2 to 3 years
(Clippers are old and need draft picks)
(Blazers love Lillard and want to see him win a ring in their colors)
(Spurs have too many draft picks and I think this is a smart move for them)

  3. Yeah he is a Good player but if you had a change to trade Johnson for like a 3rd pick like scoot wouldn't You pull the trigger I would đŸ€·

  4. IT'S JUST BUSINESS!!!! can't let emotions and feelings get involved or you lose. Even if the player's mindset is to show some kind of loyalty, the agents, financial managers even life partners are thinking of the bigger picture.

  5. Don't trade that man! Cap friendly deal, hasn't reached his potential, can't wait to see him play with talented players!

  6. I agree. You cannot move him but I’m also for doing right by the player too. Walker Murray and White deserve to play for contenders. I’m sure we’d love to have them back being what hindsight is but at least they get a taste on being on a competitive team

  7. Hornets, Blazers and Rockets will not trade their picks. Spurs should just keep Keldon, he has a ceiling than White and Murray and I am sure he is going to improve more next season.

  8. I would agree but something really important everyone seems to be overlooking is with the new CBA coming into play next season, we wouldn't be able to afford him due to the new cap restrictions. Nba teams would only afford to have probably 2 super max contracts and i don't think Keldon is worth that yet.

  9. I don't think KJ will be traded. However, he'll have the opportunity to prove he can play for a championship contender. Also remember he is a Klutch client. DJ and DW were approaching their prime and it would have been unfair of the Spurs to bury their talent in season after season of winless Bball. KJ is safe at least for another year. I do like your take, however.

  10. Agree. You don't want to keep trading players that you grew. Of course, if the offer is like 2nd or 3rd pick from Charlotte, or Portland, it is very doable. Other than that, we should hold on to him. Locker room presence, image of front office as well as he will be more valuable down the road due to his team friendly contract. On top of that, he was pretty efficient when he WASN'T no.1 option. He could be a spark plug off the bench due to his inability to play defense, and become like Lou Will or Jamal type of player. I'd say keep him unless offer is too irresistible.

  11. 1st to trade or wave

    Khem Birch

    Romeo Langford

    Gorgui Dieng

    2nd to trade or wave

    Dominick Barlow

    Charles Bassey

Last to be traded (no wave) (dire case and only for a true die-hard point guard/guard combo)

    Doug McDermott

    Devonte' Graham

    Keita Bates-Diop

    Blake Wesley

  12. I think if the Spurs traded DJM first White might still be here (probably not) but then we wouldn't one of the Sochan, Wesley, Branham trio.

  13. The team have great chemistry what I see. He's still young (23), so why not keep him for a couple years. They shouldn't rush into the rebuild and just continue building on what they have. I wanted them to trade KJ for assets but I doubled down.

  14. Umm, Dejounte told the Spurs(well publicized) he would not sign again as the Spurs would only be able to provide a 15% increase. He was also a Klutch client who were turning the screws. This is completely DIFFERENT that Derrick White.

Have you heard Derrick talking crap abt the Spurs. Btw, the Spurs gave Dejounte a 64 MI / 4 yrs when Dejounte had a torn ACL and was still unproven when he signed. How abt that for gratitude???

Please tell the Full story. This is not the same as Derrick. I was a HUGE fan of Dejounte. He was my favorite player. I lost all respect for him. Remember, he himself said multiple teams promised to select him on Draft night. Spurs took him at the end od the first round. They have him s chance when others teams LIED to him and that's our "Thank you"??

Rich, I like you but get your facts straight!!!!

Btw, pull up the video on Draft night. Dejounte appears pissed after being selected by the Spurs. Fans noticed and we're ticked off.

Dejounte spoke to LeBron that night according to Dejounte and LeBron told him he was luck as he was going to the best organization. Looking back, I suppose he was hurt abt being lied to by several teams who promised to select him.

As the old radio saying goes, "Now,you know the rest of the story"

  15. Outstanding take, Rich!

Here’s the question I ask to the Keldon naysayers: Why would you trade the player that just showed you he’s capable of making the ultimate team-first sacrifice? Keldon knew we were in for a rough year, that fingers would be pointed his direction, and wholeheartedly accepted an on-court role as first option, even though it was way above his pay grade. And he kept everybody’s morale up in the process. That’s some Manu-level leadership, which doesn’t grow on trees.

  16. Well Wemby wants to play the 4 so it won't be a big deal. Slide Jeremy to the 3. You got a really good defense there.

  17. I actually ran into Keldon yesterday shopping and asked him what’s he been up too. He said just grinding getting ready for next season then I asked who you think Spurs taking just to see what he says and he said “Victor or course “ 😂😂

  18. I hate that spurs twitter want to trade him so bad. He’s the heart and soul of this spurs era

  19. Hi TSR Sports! I disagree a little bit. Contract wise there will be a payroll crunch in the next 3-5 years with 3 first round draft picks last year. Spurs cannot afford that in the long term with the CBA rules. As a player and fit, i dont have a problem with Keldon. My only concern is the contract in the long term basis. You could disagree with me on this, its fine.

  20. YES, trade Keldon.
Trading Keldon right now will get the Spurs in better position in the draft and in assets for the future.
Keldon is a great young player, but he is wasting his good years on the roster while the Spurs aren't going anywhere. Keeping Keldon would require already having 1 or 2 other star players and a good supporting bench rotation that's poised to make a playoff run NEXT season… BUT that is NOT HAPPENING anytime soon.
The smart team management decision with the future in mind is trading KJ right now that he has value and interest from other teams, and can garner future assets in return.

Derek White was traded away, (as well as DJ and Lonnie) because the Spurs were going nowhere with them. (and DW kind of sucked sometimes)

  21. Agree 100% with you Rich. It does set a bad precedent for a organization that has a great reputation around the league. Keldon is a solid player who very possibly hasn't even reached his full potential yet. He has a very affordable contract is as you said, i still a young guy. The Spurs have draft capital to use if they want to move up in the draft rather than lose players who have shown they are good character guys and can thrive on this team. With Wemby about to be drafted it's time to develop chemistry and camaraderie with this young core. Plus, adding a couple Vets, (maybe Turtle and Patty) to help guide this roster on their journey towards being a winning team.

  22. There are three types of fans. One is the ‘relationship’ fan who just likes to be a Spurs fan regardless. These fans hate trades and want their favorite player to stay. The second is the ‘winning team’ fan that prefers being a Spurs fan but would rather follow a winning team. They don’t usually hang around in losing seasons. The third is the ‘new player’ fan who is more a fan of basketball than any particular team and would rather watch fun games and follow new players that show promise. I think the opinions align to this.

  23. I don't think anyone is trying to just trade him because they want to get rid of him. We are only looking at potentially trading him if we get a guy that can be a true star. Ex. We trade Keldon and picks for the 3-6 pick to get Amen. There it makes sense, but trading him for like 10th or 11th pick to just get another guy makes no sense. I don't think anyone is trying to trade him for peanuts.

  24. you know what? my feeling KJ is something different from D-White & DJ. SPURS will keep KJ with Wemby for future.

    GO SPURS GO..!

  25. I agree in a way but here is my thing for devils advocate: Are players really going to judge the spurs for shuffling around guys (who weren’t going to take them anyway) so that they could get a generational building block? Are players in the league going to judge the spurs for then trying to put the right pieces around victor to grow together? I really don’t think so. I’m all for organizational loyalty, but only if you have an identity and direction that you are happy with, keep rolling. The spurs were in mediocre no man’s land for a few years and really didn’t seem to have a direction, therefore a lot of the guys on that roster really weren’t part of the “core” that we want to be loyal to. Now that the spurs have a direction, let’s be loyal to anyone we keep through this year and build with those guys
..but some of the guys between Kawhi and before victor won’t stay with the SAS and I don’t think that it’s a bad thing.

  26. It’s a business and if you listen to some former players the spurs are not all innocent . And do you think when Keldon is ready to go he’s gonna care what Pop thinks. Nope ..It’s a chance to make the team better now. There is a chance Keldon goes to the bench, how does he react ? If he’s traded there is a chance he’s going to another starting role

  27. Keldon has been my favorite player on the spurs since he got here. I've always thought he can develop into a great 2nd or 3rd option. I think his shooting will be a lot better this year and his drives to the basket will be even more effective than they already are. He's a stud in my opinion, and it would be dumb to move him. Plus, he lead our team through the darkness. He deserves our loyalty.

  28. Keldon wont be traded. Keldon is one of Pop’s study and loves him. Remember he has a great relationship with Pop. Having played under him in the Olympics was proof he wants Keldon on the team as his voice in the team.

  29. Perhaps he will be better for the team when he's no longer the main scoring option. Very good player, but sometimes seems to use so much energy to score 2 points! In two minds about whether to trade or not.

  30. This year draft is so deep and I think this is the right time to make some moves And draft some defensive guy to pair with sochan wemby and vassel .

  31. This is pro ball and it’s a business. Everyone is trade-able for the right price.

  32. Keldon Johnson is a strong Small Forward and he solidifies the small forward position.

  33. I love Keldon, I totally get everything you are saying and was pretty much thinking the same thing just the other day. Thing is though, just say trading him( plus assets) allows us to move into the top 5 in the draft and a chance at grabbing an elite pg, then our future super team of Wemby, Sochan and Amen or Scoot would be already assembled and guarantee us at the very least title contention in a few years. Tough decision but I think we would have no choice but to do it.
