Like everyone else I am disappointed that we did not go to the finals. But 4 ECF and 1 Finals in 6 years is great in my opinion. Only the Miami heat are as consistent in deep playoff runs in that span. Take away the champions, I would argue the other 25 teams in the league who cannot consistently go deep in the playoffs or even just make the playoffs are the failures.
Mazzula ain’t bad but I knew we would get out coached this post season. Hopefully the assistants will help fill those holes. I think Mazzula with strong assistants and this teams experience can bring us to a finals
Side note: nobody is saying these things about the warriors who were the champs last year

Nope its not good enough. al's a year older. Marcus as lead pg doesn't work. small ball doesnt work so there would need to be re-appropriation of guard talent to big talent. Grant may also walk. Gallo can cover grant walking but we need at least 1 new starter level big (by trading away 1-2 of our guards, especially pp). Then, idealy a 3nd wing for the times sam doesnt have it as we are especially thin at the wing. Champegnie doesn't count and should be traded/let go to cut salary. Not saying major changes to the core are needed but changes to the top 8 are along with cost-cutting moves at the edges to cut salary. and yeah that new big better be able to shoot given how mazzula ball is run. Here's my top 5 big trade targets:

2. lauri markannen
3. zach collins
4. myles turner
5. jusuf nurkic
if we want a second new big, i'm sure we can pick up dario saric or jamychal green for the vet min. kristaps porzingis would be a candidate but he's too pricey.
This is not a failure on the Celtics part. The Celtics continue to show who they are. They have always struggled through the playoffs, never dominating anyone. Jimmy Butler missing that 3 pt shot last year was the worst thing to happen to the Celtics. Gave the illusion that they had taken a step forward when they never did.
Joe and others around the sports media world may have thought he was under pressure to win the championship this year. He will be under even pressure next year to win. If the Celtics doesn't win it all next year, Joe is gone.
dam it john, your perspective (and projections) for our team are always so obstinately positive that it really feeds us hope for banner 18. we've been hoping since it4, kyrie/gordon/al, and the jays (with ime first and now with joe). the problem is, as you've said today and in so many ways before – this team needs an attitude adjustment.
now, i'll admit that i love everyone on the team and hate to see anyone go, but it's tough to just sit pat and start another season with the same exact roster. it's tough to keep hoping only to be disappointed. maybe our fault is that we cast our hopes and make our predictions based on this team's talent. coaching aside, i think miami showed us something this team is missing – and it's definitely not talent.
I'll say it again: LBJ and MJ won their first championships at age 27. And BTW, we've done this for three years now: at the end of the season, panic, insist we "trade away the Jays" (because apparently, they and ONLY they peak BEFORE they're in their late 20s) for some ludicrous package of BS. Can we NOT be stupid, spoiled (we haven't won any championships in five years!! FIVE!!!!!!) fans? Just asking.
So maybe you don’t hire a guy who needs to learn these things before he has learned them to lead a Team & Fanbase expecting to win & knows their capable of winning… !!!! #WhyDidntBradStashHimInTheGLeague 🤦♂️
Howard makes a really good point. I think MOST of people's hilarious overreaction to Joe IS how he comes across in pressers. People think he's just that way ALL the time. I don't exactly blame them (except Bill Simmons. When did he start hanging out with people like Jim Murray?)–we do the same with politicians (well, except one), and YES, Joe needs to watch less Bill Belichick tape.
Kornet, Grant, Pritchard definitely need to go and whoever else was at the end of the bench. Blake can come back on a vet deal. The Celtics need a 3 and D wing and a quality big. Defensive identity and poise has to be the mind set going into next season.
If Mazulla comes into next season thinking shoot 3, they are cooked to start. Please do not use Tatum's ankle as an excuse, it was not that bad, if so he could has got a shot, taped it, it's Game 7, you suck it up. Please do not blame that loss on his ankle. Let's see if the new coaches can put any sack into this team, I have seen no mental toughness, no ability to hold a lead and no ability to come back, and launching 3's from their home porch, and some people think this team will win, it's not happening unless there is a huge attitude change, including not dying by the 3.
