    Why we do it:

    – Now we have 3 stars

    – Beal’s playmaking & mid-range give us an even better version of Brogdon on offense plus he is great off-ball & could possibly fix out late-game offense

    – Makes Tatum happy

    – The new trade rules make it so you cant aggregate multiple players to get 1 player, but not the reverse, so if it goes sideways we can split him into multiple players

    – Beal has the ability to dribble with his left hand

    – Gafford gives us depth in the frontcourt

    Why the Wizards do it:

    – Because they have to: in this fantasy scenario, Beal uses his no-trade clause to force himself to Boston to be with his childhood friend Tatum

Honestly don’t think it’s a good fit, this is like the nets 2.0 with less proven stars. I’m not sure Beal could be the playmaker that James harden was for that team either. That said for what we’re giving up here, im not sure you could turn it down, but our cap will be permanently fucked too if it doesn’t work out. I’m conflicted on it.

I don’t think we’d get Gafford. He’s young enough and cheap enough to be part of a rebuild, and all indications are the Wiz like him quite a bit.

Theoretically, I think a framework of PP + Grant sign-and-trade + Brogdon to a 3rd team in exchange for rebuilding assets makes sense.

Realistically, the odds of us moving JB when he’s up for an extension are slim, and the odds of Beal forcing his way to Boston to be 3rd banana (even if only for a season) are even slimmer.

  4. I mean, this is definitely the most persuasive proposal and one I was pondering last night. I just don’t think it happens unless Beal said only trade me to Boston. I don’t love giving up so much in the front court, though, and I would have to see other options to bolster it before going through with it.

My only other caveat is that if ownership is cool with spending that much and says screw the penalties that come with adding to the roster. That would make me consider it more as well.

I think if we are going after Beal, though I’m not certain we should, there are couple things to consider:

    – You want him to say that he’ll only lift the no trade clause for the Celtics
    – You want to trade before the new league year, so that matching salaries is a lot easier

    With these ideas in mind:

    – Brogdon + Gallo(needs to pick-up player option) + Muscala(need to pick up team option) + PP would match salaries
    – You can then send whatever draft compensation makes the deal happen

Still unclear if it’s worth it tbh. You will run into needing to make some hard decisions next year, but it is an ok all-in move to win this year.

Some of you guys clearly haven’t read the CBA details lol. If you did, you wouldn’t waste your time trying to add Beal to Brown and Tatum.

Question: Is Grant allowed in the trade if it’s a sign-and-trade scenario? I thought that if it’s a sign and trade Grant would have to be the only one outgoing

  8. Like other have said, this all comes down to Beal. If he says Celtics and no one else, we can get him for pennies. If not then we quickly run into “not worth the cost” territory.

Going off the assumption he does pick the Cs, I look at it like this:

We have 1-2 seasons to win with that group then we have to ship someone off- likely Brown since he will still be young (dead set in his prime) and have years on his deal and Beal will still have the NTC. I think this is something the team has to consider because imagine miami just adding beal or MIL.
