[Grange] Per league sources, it’s expected Poeltl, the big Austrian centre Toronto acquired at the trade deadline, will be looking for a deal with an average value of $20 million per season, while VanVleet is expected to be looking for something in the $30-million range.

    Alright Bobby. Time to shine.

Bring em back on great deals.

    >The decision was made easier, per team sources, by the fact that Trent Jr. wanted to stay in Toronto — that he’s been training at the OVO Athletic Centre almost continuously since the season ended being one evident example

    >When I did the rough math on that scenario with Sportsnet’s Blake Murphy, VanVleet and Poeltl could get first-year salaries starting at $26.7 million and $17.9 million and still have contracts that averaged $30 million and $20 million per year. That would add up to $44.6 million on the first-year deals when combined, or $3.6 million more than the $41.5 million they theoretically can spend and stay under the tax threshold.

    >With Trent Jr.’s number locked in at $18.5 million, it leaves about $41.5 million left to sign VanVleet and Poeltl once place holders for draft picks and empty roster spots are accounted for.

    >For all the buzz around VanVleet, it still seems to make the most sense – given the Raptors’ clear intention to re-sign Poeltl – for the Raptors to make every effort to hang on to the former all-star point guard.

It’d be an absolute disaster if we were to lose Jak for nothing after all we gave up for him, can’t have it, even if a slight overpay is neccessary.

Can sign Yak for 19.7 over 5 yrs, that’s pretty close to 20. And can sign Fred to 29 over 5 yrs, that’s pretty close to 30. I’m not sure I want Fred back for 5 years but it’s possible to bring them both back.

Was hoping Poeltl would land closer to the 16-18m range but whatever, not a big difference.

Fred at 30m though man. If the deal is only like 2 or 3 years I don’t hate it but giving Fred that much for 4 years is just not it.

FVV is gone. No doubt about that

  9. jamiecballer

Whole offseason about to be sabotaged by Trent’s opt-in

  10. Konfliction

I’d much rather just sign Jak, having a consistent long term C is Ok to me

Really weird and uncharacteristically stupid move by Masai to acquire Jak. He didn’t even have a verbal agreement with Jak to resign and shelled a first round pick for him to potentially walk in 6 months.

I don’t even blame Jak now he knows the raptors are desperate and has the leverage to get a huge bag knowing how bad FO is going to look if they let him walk.

    What a disastrous trade.

20-21 mil each for both GTJ(if he extends) and Poeltl is not bad at all. Both are good deals for solid contributors, both are young enough to still improve and both contracts are still positives or at worst neutrals when it comes to trading in the future.

If I’m Yak’s agent, I have Masai by the balls. I’d demand A LOT.

What other teams actually wants Poeltl so badly that they’re going to give him $20M+?
There’ve been news of interest in OG, FVV, PS, GTJ but almost no one looking to land Poeltl.
Every contender has a solid centre already and I don’t see a lot of teams out there looking to take on that kind of annual cap hit to get him when there are cheaper options available.

30 Million for FVV would be pure insanity

What are the chances FO goes into the tax just to run it back? It seems like they’d have to be extremely confident in this roster to do so.

Is it Groundhog Day, wasn’t this reported like 6 months ago?

  19. GanjaLoverCan

We have to pay him and go into the luxary, like this billionaire company cant afford it. They just bought Shaw for $26 billion. They need to spend on the Raptors and hope they get lucky.

  20. demarderollins

Watch us run it back and flip contracts like porter and other fillers into bench depth, draft we’ll at the 12, and fuck around and have a solid team under new coaching
