[Tim Cato] “Dallas has spoken with the Boston Celtics about a Grant Williams sign-and-trade. Dallas isn’t interested in using its pick to acquire him, and the team might decide against an offer — something more than the mid-level exception — that would be large enough that Boston wouldn’t match.”

I like Williams. Maybe Wood for Williams. Hes a Luka guy as well.

wouldn’t the sign and trade hard cap us? unsure how much that’d affect our flexibility with other moves

To me, feels like the Mavs might be learning from previous mistakes of off-season pasts – “We like him, but we ain’t gonna over pay for him.”

Glad Nico has enough sense not to include the pick for him. Wood, Hardaway, or Bertans are the only trade pieces that make sense financially

Short fat and can’t do anything on offense but shoot 3s. That’s the right formula!

Is it legal to add another team? I.e Collins and Bey to Boston, Bertans Williams 3 to Hawks and Williams to the Mavs. Bertans has value due to his last year imo to the Hawks.

  7. I would love Grant Williams on this team, we do need another big wing that can play defense. If we manage to get him + a starting center (+ someone for the TPMLE), that would be a great offseason for us IMO.

Williams is a playoff guy and Nico knows that

If we can somehow get John Collins & Grant Williams without giving up our pick, and unloading Bertans, I can’t wait to see what’s coming for #10.

You guys would probably like him. Goofy/Nice guy but he tries hard and shoots 3’s way better than you think he should. Can bury open ones and with Kyrie/Doncic he should see a whole lot of them. Basically took out the Bucks 13 months ago by himself in the eastern semis.

  11. assuming that:

    1. Kyrie resigns for at least 40M a year
    2. Cato is talking about the non tax payer mid level exception (12M) and not the tax payer mid level exception (5M)

the only way to even get our hands on the NTPMLE (12M) is by shedding quite a lot of salary and pretty much the only route to go there other than trading Bertans + #10 for powder is by stretch waiving Bertans. That would mean dead cap space of 4.4Mt for the next 5 years.

for me, that means one thing. The trade proposals on the table right now for #10 + Bertans for a vet & potentially a later frp are not as enticing as we thought, bc we are considering to just straight out stretch waive Bertans in order to be able to offer the NTPMLE to Grant Williams.

    Interesting.

I guess we need to shed salary to unlock the full MLE. maybe we can salary dump THJ to the Pistons for Isiah Stewart. They have a log jam at the 5 and could flip Bogi/ThJ at the trade deadline for assets.

Rather get Bruce Brown for Full MLE. With the help of Kyrie recruiting.
