Honestly I hate this move. I know we don’t have enough roster spots for all our picks but this is just such a odd move.

  2. Xx_FreeWitty_xX

That’s really the best we could do? Kind of an ass return tbh

  3. Psyren1317

This just seems like such a pointless move that really hurts potential leverage. I don’t get it.

  4. Adamishungry

The timing is so strange. Why make this move now?

  5. BracketClass

well, 40 is lower than 32 and I feel like the 24 Nuggets pick will be incredibly late. Even if it’s 25th in 24, i think 29 right now holds more value

and now we dont have much ability to move up either

EDIT: ok it’s the worst of like 4 teams, 3 of which probably aint good (but thunder may improve a lot?) and LAC who could blow it up or be hurt all the time. also some protections on each of those

    It’s not bad

  6. JustBengals19

We must really hate this draft class to be moving out of the first round for what will likely be the same pick (around 29) next year

  7. Psyren1317

I normally love (or at least see the reasoning) behind most of KP’s moves.

This one I don’t get. At all. It literally makes zero sense other than pushing back salary to next year all while tanking our leverage to hell. Very very strange.

  8. yunkgang

Ok so this is a weird OKC pick that might be in the teens

  9. Lytleon

I don’t get this. Maybe more moves to come, but I’m puzzled.

I probably like this better than most, but still don’t see why we couldn’t have just waited until tomorrow.

I do like having the extra 2024 pick, even though it’ll likely be a late one.

  11. To me this just signals that a move-up in the first was never that viable with the assets that we had. I don’t mind it at all.

  12. StanceLephenson

KP hoping Jokic tears his ACL and the nugs pick is a lotto next year

  13. SpinJitsu259

Would love to keep all the picks, but we all knew something like this was coming. Regarding why not wait until tomorrow to see if they could trade up into the teens, etc.? There are a lot of teams with multiple 1sts in this draft, and most of them have been rumored to be wanting to consolidate their picks, and most of them have more favorable draft slots with their multiple picks than the Pacers do.

My guess is the Pacers’ collection of 26, 29, 32 wasn’t getting the traction needed to get into the late lottery/ teens, so they pivoted to this.

  14. Oregonhoosier31

Very odd decision here. Now we really. Need to make sure we get a 4 at pick 7 tmrw. Personally I wanted prosper with pick 29 or 32 but fuck that I guess

  15. jurjclooners44

Lol at all the ‘sky is falling’ takes. Obviously not the trade we were hoping for, but I trust KP and team did their diligence before pulling the trigger.

We obviously didn’t have options to move up this year. The consensus is this is a talented and deep draft class; folks above 25 are probably very happy to hold their pick/maximize their return. We decided to take what we could and kick the can down the road another year.

  16. Snafudumonde

If it was just the 29th for next year’s least favorable FRP, fine. Don’t understand why they had to move back in the 2nd round

  17. I’m in the minority and think it’s a good trade. At this point you have figure KP has done his due diligence and seen what interest there are for our picks as far as packaging them and moving up. My guess is there wasn’t much interest. It’s a good thing to move one of these picks to next year when we might have more flexibility.

I’m guessing giving Denver the 32 was key to them giving up next years first round pick and we still got a pick in a similar range that gives us flexibility. There could be players they like that they figure will be available at 40. It also still has some tradable value if we need it. It’s not an exciting move but it’s a good move and I’m glad we have two picks for next year.

    this sub is dramatic lol

my other comments shows i wouldnt have made it myself but cmon now, it’s basically even value still. a 24 1st from any team could still be as good as, like, mid 1st. you never know what happens. it also gives you more flexiblity re: the stepien rule. calm down lol anyone using rhetoric like “awful” or “horrendous” or “bent over”…well that’s wild to me

  19. Shorts_Man

Literally nobody here knows what’s going on behind the scenes so just shut the fuck up with the instant negativity.

  20. Frostler

Definitely feels like a lateral move. They must’ve had zero luck trying to trade up. Fact is late first rounders are just not super valuable so I don’t mind rolling the dice on the nuggets having a tough yer. If not, who cares.

  21. napmane24

KP must know Jokic is staying in Serbia with his horses and retiring

  22. Hank_Scorpio74

I feel like something is missing. We just traded #29 (2023) and 32 for what could end up being #29 (2024) and 40. There has to be some 3D chess move to this, right?

  23. Apprehensive_Pie8897

“I would like to exhange this for the keep it”

  24. Lord_Vandall

This may not be the full story? also might be that there was no market for the picks and the Pacers had to trade them since they simply can’t draft that many players.

  25. batmans420

I don’t rlly care but seems weird …

  26. Pacers31Colts18

Looking at Tony’s tweet, it’s the worst pick of these:

    Houston (1-4 protected)
    Utah (1-10 protected)
    LA Clippers (unprotected)
    Oklahoma City (unprotected)

Houston and OKC are bad. LA could be blowing it up, and Utah is a team that will probably be a first/second round exit (mid 20’s).

    Honestly, not a bad move.

  27. midwestleatherdaddy

“We like who we can get at 7. All our picks will still be around.”

  28. Seeing as how the pick is the worst of the rockets, thunder, clippers, and jazz and not the nuggets pick, we basically moved back 8 spots in this year’s 2nd to move up potentially 10+ spots in next year’s 1st. I actually kinda like it knowing that now. Doesn’t look nearly as good if it was Denver’s own pick.

  29. MontaEllisBurner

I think I sorta understand the move, we have too many FRPs for this year that we can’t sign two-ways with and have guaranteed contracts, so we traded away the pick to be able to move in **next year’s** draft, rather than trying to use the pick this year and having to cut someone to make the space.

With how the pick rules work it seems like this one will *maybe* fall in the late teens to early 20s range, add our pick which would (hopefully) be in the same range, and maybe throw in one more player (maybe IJax/Duarte?) and FO can add a lottery pick with those three assets.

We have more roster space for the 2024 off-season as Theis has a TO, McConnell is partially guaranteed, and Hield is off the books assuming he isn’t traded, so this 2024 FRP could be a nice bonus for a potential trade next year

  30. binford7

I think it’s a good move. I expected this type of trade tomorrow night during the draft but obviously the Pacers would have a pretty good idea of the market now.

There was zero chance the Pacers were making 4 picks tomorrow.

I like getting a future first. From what I understand of the terms of this trade and the protections there is a chance the Pacers could end up with a pick in the teens or early 20s. Worst case scenario they can always make another trade for a future first next year if they don’t like the players available where that pick is. You can pretty much always find something to trade a future first for a current one.

  31. payheempaythatman

It’s not Denver’s pick. It’s the worst of like 4 other teams who will all have worse records than the Nuggets. It’ll be the pick from the Jazz, OKC, Houston or the Clippers.

  32. BlueandGold1975

Say goodbye to Leonard Miller..not sure how we move up now to draft him..really wanted him too.

  33. cloudJR

Pritchard has been a beast the past few years and knowing the details almost leaves me wondering why Denver would do this. Hell the Clippers are interested in seeing Paul’s trade value and they are the best team out of the four.
