They got the guy they wanted 2 picks later, dropped the worst contract in the nba, and picked up a MLE? Great night
htking2019
We needed rim protection and rebounding. Can’t complain when you grab a guy like this.

People arguing Cam or DL2…
Y’all Nico got us a FAT dub either way. And now we have a center and flexibility to play around a little more. This is a massive W tonight.
DoncicsRoadTo200kg
He is pretty raw… I smell another season of Powell being our starting center
LightsSoundAction
dude is a rim protector and solid interior defender. that’s what we need. plus freeing up space to maybe get Grant, this is solid. he’s bad at offense but we don’t necessarily need that.
WelcometoHale
We haven’t been able to land another decent center. So might as well try this.
ormip
It’s very risky. It can work out great if he develops, but is looking really raw so if he can’t/doesn’t develop while we are in win now mode, this could be bad for us.
I would have preferred to play it safe and go for a higher floor/lower ceiling move and trade for someone like Allen. Now this can be either a lot better in 2 years, or just really really bad.
i_take_shits
Feeling great about it. Addresses such a glaring need. On a rookie contract. Getting off Bertans money. This is a W
hiiigoon
Congratulations Powell, u won.
MSHinerb
Fills an enormous need that we have had for YEARS. He should almost immediately be Powell with rim protection.

Nico gets too much shade. He’s done wonder in two seasons

I’m thrilled to have a center like this. We’ve neglected this position for so long. Can’t wait to watch him swat shit into the stands!
shaheedmalik
The fact they cleared Bertan’s 17.0M is huge.
TZBlueIce
Feeling good! Finally have athleticism on the inside and got off Bertans’ contract doing it.
dirkellis
Job done baby ! dropping Bertans contract is the biggest W of the night for sure

Nico: ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED!
botebote77
just don’t f**k the TPE and it’s a W. i mean they could easily turn that 17m TPE into another bad contract
spark2824
The mavs could have forfeit this pick to the knicks. Instead we dropped Bertans and snagged Lively. Great night. Personally I would have loved Hendricks or Whitmore but I get it.
PechayMan
Whitmore fantards must have forgot that we have Luka.

W! We have needed a big for so long.
Moe4ver
We are not magically winning the championship next year, next two your might be a stretch but 3 years down the road, we need to be in the finals and this guy will be ready by then.
question2552
getting lively and making a massive trade exception is like an A- draft.
slightly above my expectations of “Mavs just do this” and that’s awesome.
TraditionalFeeling71
I genuinely couldn’t be happier with how this went down tonight. Definitely more optimistic.
bigmeatyclaws1
People are upset bout Lively? We were the worst fucking rebounding team in the league and had little to no interior presence.
ShassaFrassa
I love the $17M TPE and the $12M MLE along with him!

Considering how hard Whitmore is falling I think they did good. Got more flexibility for free agency and get a good prospect

Afraid-Department-35
This is a huge W. We got exactly what we needed. We dropped Bertans, picked up a high potential C that actually does interior rim protection on a rookie contract and now have full MLE to sign someone like Grant Williams. Actually glad we didn’t pick Whitmore, we don’t need more shooting especially if we sign Kyrie back and our glaring defense would still be an issue. At least now we have that solved in the future and slowly ramp him up as he shares Powell’s and probably a small bit of Maxi’s minutes too.
Drizzt3919
Love this pick! Love the whole thing. Lively is a legit center with defense. I don’t even care about the offense. The MLE and getting rid of that contract. Such a win.

> Sporting the lowest usage percentage (11.6%) of any collegiate player in our top 100, with what would be the lowest usage rate of a draft pick in the past 20-plus years
From ESPN. I just can’t give Harrison and Cuban the benefit of the doubt.

Good pick! Tyson Chandler comps but maybe closer to a WCS 2.0
Nubsondubs
I’m trying to talk myself into this pick. He definitely fills a huge need on our roster. I’m just not convinced he’ll be able to earn the minutes.
On the plus side it seems like he has *fantastic* eye-hand coordination. Eye-hand coordination is such an underrated asset to have, but I think it’s crucial for several basketball skills. This dude is tall and good athleticism/eye-hand coordination. I think (desperatly hope) everything else can be taught.
Things I’d like to see him work on more:
* Bending his knees. He reaaaaally needs to bend his knees more. He’s going to get pushed out of position a ton until he learns this.
* He needs to more actively seek the box out. He seems to rely too much on his height and not his fundamentals when trying to get boards. I’ll see listlessly drift towards the rim and the paint when a shot goes up, instead of seeking a body to block out. He’s going to get shoved out of rebounding position in the NBA much more than he did in the NCAA.
