The golden age of NHL arena construction was 1993-2001 and NBA arenas was 1990-2005. So far the only vacated arena built during those times is the Arizona Coyotes now looking for their next bailout. Next year the LA Clippers will move into their new privately-funded Inglewood arena while the Lakers/Kings stay put downtown. The Ottawa Senators and Philly 76ers/Flyers are looking at new sites in their downtowns. Bottom line is that teams for the most part are making their current arenas work and renovating them.

Think this is posturing to extract more money and concessions from the DC government. Losing the teams would be a big blow to “Chinatown” and the neighborhood would suffer. But the location is great for the teams and I don’t believe they truly want to move.

Yeah let’s change our name to the Nova Bullets at this point 😂

Not sure why people are mad about this potentially happening. We complain about the stadium being in a terrible location constantly. A stadium in VA would be more accessible for our fans. I thought y’all were tired of all the opposing fans. It’s like you want everything Ted does to be bad just so you can justify hating him.

Cap One is not in a terrible location

As a fan from Baltimore, this really sucks. Philly is gonna end up being the closer team at this rate and I refuse to ever root for a Pennsylvania team🤮
This will just mean all the people from Maryland are less likely to travel for a game. Nice Ted.

Just looking at a map of the area they are talking about and I have no idea how’d they would fit a arena in there. Chinatown has obviously taken a hit the past few years but I’m pretty most prefer this location compared to a on in VA.

If anything, build up at Ballston to include a Wizards practice facility. I’m not saying move them from DC, but at least for practice, copy the Capitals model. Make it accessible for fans, which is one of the awesome things about the Caps set up at MedStar. Would help garner interest in a team that is either 3rd or 4th in the pecking order of major sports popularity in the city. Especially now since there is an actual rebuild happening with intriguing young talent.

If it’s near the Amazon sure that’s still within 1 hour and 30 minutes of commute for me. Can’t they move to somewhere in MD? Ugh.

Hoping for another expansion team in the area

Yeah put it in the middle of a parking lot in Woodbridge, how charming. /s

Put an arena near Konterra! Plenty of space!

Also thoughts here, but I’m sure a lot of people missed the news because that OP used a vague title:
