The OMax to DFS comps stop at defense

I think we’ve been getting a lazy take with the OMax to DFS comparisons. OMax has much better foot work, driving, cutting and finishing. That’s not even to mention where the shooting is at coming out of college compared to Doe. What do y’all think?

100% agree. Some may disagree, and that’s ok, but I think in 3 years OMax will be better than DFS currently is

Yeah, especially before entering the development phase, DFS was raw as hell. I believe that Dallas has an unique ability to take these borderline NBA players like DFS and Crowder (at the time of his draft) and turn them into valuable 3&D and quality assets. Both of them where central pieces in major trades of our history (that trade was something big at the time for us, even if that lasted for four games before F-Rondo). I like what I’m seeing with Omax, great Mavs prototype player.

I am agnostic about his cutting, but he’s not going to be doing much driving to the hoop with the ball, let’s be realistic here.

He measures a little taller and longer then DFS and seems to be a little quicker, his shooting while not amazing if you look at his catch and shoot numbers (38%) which given that Luka crates the open shoots for his team of anyone in the league Omax should probably have at a minimum comparable shooting do DFS quite early although I’m pretty sure theavs lost their shooting coach to another team.

Omax shows more ability than DFS had but it’s by no means a strength, hopefully this can develop this too.

DFS was an average role player who could get hit from three at times. This sub tends to make it seem like he was Kawhi-esque. This guy’s potential is much higher than DFS.

I’m interested in his screen navigating ability. I watched some defense plays of his and it’s crazy how good he is at getting around or avoiding being screened off for a player as big as him.

Wasn’t expecting him to be such a good finisher, if he turns into a legit two way beast it’ll be a prosperous future for this team

He is more OG/Siakam body type.

OG offensive package with 25 is still kinda iiffy/overrated. OG is probably the best case in terms of ceiling. Great defense, medicore offense.

As always the shooting will determine how fast he will get minutes most likely.

But if you look at videos he is making 3’s around the perimeter, not just the corner. Tho his jumper looks better than where DFS started.

I think he might get minutes early on, if he isn’t overwhelmed. Just his body type is much needed.

Frank worked surprisingly well alongside Luka/Kyrie as a wing (4th in +/- post trade) and he was probably the worst offensive player on the roster last year. But also best suited for the wing with his longer wingspan.

If OMax can give you similar defense than Frank (which is pretty great imo), he might work right away. Because his offense might be better from day 1 lol.
