I think he’s missing that Malcolm Brogdon is a distributor. He came off the bench last season for the Celtics and averaged about 2 assists less per game than Marcus Smart. Marcus Smart averaged a PER of 12 last season, so trading him to get Porzingis and keep Brogdon was a win.
Smh I just wish u guys could get better. The problem isn’t the need for a pg. This offense was a juggernaut still. The problem was it was one note and lacked adaptability. You could double Tatum, take it out of his hands and the other struggled to do anything of threes weren’t falling because lanes shut down. There were two big reasons for this. One. Marcus’ guy never guards him in playoffs. So that guy helps on jays all game. This mucks up everything and results in a lot of wide open smart shots. Two. You didn’t have any other type of offense. Kp simply being to catch the ball at the nail changes the whole floor. Ur own volume guy said Tatum needed to become great back to basket to take another step. Well kp does that and you have kick back to Tatum open and you have an effective pnr tandem with him or Jaylen. The problem wasn’t a lack of elite playmaker, it was a lack of variety. Porzingis solves that and unlocks a much better balanced defensive team. Plus u can now deploy white as u want without worrying bout smart ego stuff.
Smart can literally guard 1-4. He’s better in every way on offense than Dillon Brooks. Morant and Bane can get you 50 pts while Marcus defends their best perimeter player. All while having Adams and JJJ waiting for you if you get by one of them. Terrific move by Memphis.
Stupid trade for Boston. Zinger, Rob & or Brogdon will be watching from the bench like Mazulla last season when they get injured Porzingis is due for a injury especially with Boston’s bad luck… 🍀
