Yeah just imagine some crazy injury hits before he gets paid? Totally fair for him to want to stay in the states, lay low, and take the summer nice and easy while his future gets sorted out.

As a Japanese fan, having a great season as a Laker will produce a lot more content and excitement for Japanese viewers compared to going like 8th in the World Cup.

Respect to him he knows he’s going to have a big season this year getting real playing time

Man wants the bag and doesn’t want to risk an injury. I respect it, especially if he stays on.

As a Mets fan who witnessed the Edwin Diaz injury in the World Baseball Classic, which had a negative domino effect on our bullpen, I am so glad to read this! Rui has a lot of potential to be a major contributor for the Lakers.

I know we’re all Laker fans here so it’s great that he’s avoiding another Dante Exum incident. I’m sure next year will be a breakout season for him so I’m excited to see him be at the best he can be.

But as a FIBA Asia fan, this kinda sucks since he was supposed to play in front of his home fans. Rarely does our part of the world produce NBA-level talent so it’s usually a big deal for us when they play in front of us for our own team. He’s clearly Japan’s best player and I think the best performing Asian team in the World Cup gets a slot in the Olympics (correct me if I’m wrong). Japan with Rui (for me) is Asia’s #1. In front of China, Lebanon, S. Korea, Iran, Jordan, and even the Philippines with Clarkson.

He saw that Japanese line saw he was playing center lol

Good, I’m tired of seeing Rui carry that team so he should save it for the Olympics as Wembanyama is doing.
