[Bobby Marks] The Atlanta trade is an example of the new CBA. Moving money for long term relief that helps build out a roster. The unintended consequences are that free agents now get squeezed because $25M of cap space in Utah is gone.

That’s ok – we have a ton. In his final year his contract can easily be a salary-freeing dump in a trade.
On a related note, this new CBA is gonna completely squeeze the middle class of the nba everywhere, not just in Utah. Really poor CBA agreements by the players imo. There’s gonna be a lot of really solid players making crap money soon. Essentially you are max, or you are not.
Edit: this was coincidentally brought up today by someone else too on r/nba

Also it’s only about $19m cap space since Gay going out. Jazz still can have about $20m in space I think (contingent on JC situation)
Goodbye sweet Prince Kuzma.
Really interesting. Seems like the Jazz have been linked to Porzingis if the Celtics hadn’t gotten him. Would you rather have John Collins 3/$79M or Porzingis at 3/$100M?
I’m not advocating either way, mostly just curious.
If the Jazz had an extra $20M in free agency instead of Collins, who would you have wanted to spend it on?
Well, it’s not like any free agents are looking at Utah like we’re competitive in that market anyway. I’m not sure that would be as relevant compared to someone like Houston making this trade instead of the Jazz.
I guess you could look at it like $35mil of space is now gone, because that’s what it’d take for Utah to sign a $25m player anywhere else. We only get better-than-average players from the draft or trades.
