Why Boston does this: Boston needs the frontcourt depth. Losing Grant’s 2000 minutes from last season and replacing them with Kristaps’ 2000 minutes does make the team better but it doesn’t solve the issue of Boston’s shallow frontcourt rotation, which will be even more apparent now the team can’t hide behind absurd guard depth in the wake of the Smart trade.
Factoring in the health of Boston’s current frontcourt trio (Al, Rob, Kristaps) there will be +2000-3000 minutes left at the PF/C spots next season. A versatile forward who can play either position in a pinch is an absolute must for the team. Not to mention the positional need of “big wing” needed for on-ball defence against the likes of Durant, Giannis, Siakam, etc. that Kristaps can’t fill.

After having a chance to read the list, I actually feel more confident about potentially keeping Grant.
The options essentially boil down to:
* They’re already logjammed in the front court: Pistons, Magic, Thunder, Jazz
* No money: Nets, Hawks
* They’re looking at bigger names: Rockets, Kings.
* Could be an option: Spurs, Pacers
So it’s really 2 teams. Neither of which are known for going crazy with big offers.
We’re worried about Grant getting a huge offer, but I don’t know where that offer would come from tbh.

Grant to the Rockets for Jae’sean Tate is great for both sides.
Grant had his best year by far under Ime, would like them to reconnect and him next to Şengün or Jabari in lineups make sense.
Tate is a bit short but has shown to have the strength to defend the 4 let alone the 3. Need another wing with Hauser off the bench.

Sacramento, Indiana, and Houston are the teams that seem to make the most sense to me. Would have said Utah before they traded for Collins yesterday

I think it’s important to note that, if we’re signing-and-trading Grant anyway, who cares if his next team has cap space? Find the team that fits best in terms of where Grant wants to go and who would give us a good return, and probably pull in a 3rd team to eat a salary and make the money work, thanks to BYC rules.

We won’t get much in return, if at all. Teams will likely know if we aren’t going to be matching their offer so they won’t trade anything of value for him. Also, we can only really take back 50% of his contract (so I expect nobody making more than $7.5M).
