[Smith] Everything I’m hearing is [Nurse no longer coaching the Canadian National team] was a Sixers call, not Nurse’s. I do know Nick has a huge interest in FIBA basketball and, having been an assistant with the 2012 Great Britain team in London was hoping to be a head coach in France

Lol Sixers are a gong show. They apparently need Nurse fully focused all offseason on coming up with another creative way for Embiid and co. to choke in the second round.

  2. JustAHumbleMonk

That is such horse shit. Smith still has his nose up Nurses ass.

  3. So his new team that wants his full focus on the upcoming season. Seems reasonable. He seemed committed to the team during the hoop collective podcast right after he signed. Guess things changed.

    Things change, and they did

Would have been complicated to still be Canada’s team regardless given what happened with the Raptors, with how checked out he was

Wasn’t a good look, pretty unprofessional, and just best to shake hands and move on

My hatred for 76ers continues to grow.

I could see this tbh. Maybe as a condition of him joining the team.

Nurse will just have to focus on guitar even more to show them who’s boss.

  7. Duct-Man

What does he need to focus on? He’s just gonna play Embiid and Harden 44+ minutes.

They’ll never forgive us for “the shot” man

  9. People are really so bought into Masai’s blame it on Nurse strat that they can’t see how the 76ers being in the position they are told Nurse they need him fully committed to them and not another team that has nothing really to do with him now. They think that Foug Smith fabricating this is more believable than that. Idiots.

Well yeah, I’m sure the Sixers want him to focus on his new team rather than use the offseason to coach the Canadian team.

  11. yetagainitry

Sad to see him go but for his own health it was a good choice. Those Philly fans are brutal, if the team takes any step back next year, they are going to blame every single thing Nurse does. Coaching team Canada, the plays he called, the shoes he wore

  12. motherseffinjones

He seemed like he wanted to coach team Canada, I would’ve liked that but it is what it is

These comments are so dumb, lol. The Raptors have literally nothing to do with Canada Basketball outside of the OVO gym being used for practice. Maybe the Sixers simply want their brand new coach committed to the team if what Doug is saying is true. This is no different from players who decide not to participate in international tournaments to focus on the upcoming season.

This sub loves to pull narratives out of their ass and I don’t get it. The victim complex is so weird.

“But Nurse was subsequently hired by the Philadelphia 76ers and relocated. That made staying on with Canada too challenging. Multiple reports said Nurse helped identify Fernandez as his replacement” from another article
