Dont think we can get to 12 million to keep him, might be worth matching to trade him. Mavs would need to S&T to get to 12 too though so that helps.

Why couldnā€™t we just match grants offers and trade him at the deadline to get under the second apron

Huh? Heā€™s an RFA. Canā€™t we just match that then?

Does it matter the order of operations we do things?

Can we sign a player to the full MLE and then match Grant?

  4. Some of yā€™all on here a few days ago saying heā€™s worth 17 per year.

If heā€™s gone I just hope he goes to the west like smart, I donā€™t wanna see them in the playoffs cause itll be weird for me.

Grant should resign with Celtics for one year then take his chances next year. Instead of signing a low ball offer now.

Sign and trade Grant for compensation that includes Josh Green

People are forgetting Grant was phased out of the rotation and getting DNPs. Everyone saying ā€œjust matchā€, how do you know the Celtics even want him back? Also whatā€™s the infatuation to bring him back so much with some of you? Some of you are acting like this guy is wayyyy more than what he is

Grant was a nice piece to have, and he played well for us at times, but Iā€™m not so attached to him that Iā€™m willing to go into the 2nd apron of the tax. He didnā€™t play for stretches last season at times due to his own faults. Other times I think the coaching staff didnā€™t use him properly. That said, I donā€™t think we should try to make him something heā€™s not. He is who he is, and that certainly has a role on an NBA team, but you have to get him for the right price and right now, other teams have more to spend as they have more to lose. Sometimes letting a player like him go and replacing him with new talent is the right move.

If this is Grantā€™s market, then the most he could get on the full MLE is 3 years/$39M ($13M AAV). Assuming a S&T, weā€™re probably looking at giving him 4 years/$54M ($13.5M AAV) with a 4th year player option. That means we can take back up to $7M, and Grantā€™s new team will have to send out $10-11.1M, depending on if theyā€™re a tax-paying team. So weā€™d need to either trade him into cap space or a TPE, or find a 3rd team to eat some salary ($3-5M).

he is a litteral mini Al Horford we need him for the future Al is getting to old…

Serious question: who can we even get with the $5m tpmle that is so much better than a vet minimum guy that itā€™s worth not signing Grant for $12m?

I really do not understand the hand wringing about losing our ability to give out an MLE. If the exception was like $15m I would get if, but Grant is significantly better than any vet we would sign for $5m.
