I thought this was pretty funny considering I was a little annoyed we traded this pick last year but man was I wrong. And how bad is Memphis? 🤣 gave a second round rookie a record contract and waived him within a year.

Memphis also gave Kyle Anderson that huge trade kicker that basically priced him out of San Antonio… then they actually traded him and had to pay it! (I think it may have been like 10 million)
I don’t think people are that upset we traded away 33. I think what we got in return was upsetting.
Memphis did that because they needed the roster spot, they weren’t happy about waiving him
The Spues will either have to consolidate picks with deals or simply move off of some picks going forward. The team cannot repeatedly insert 2-4+ rookies into the program every offseason, and the answer to “who should we get rid of to make room?” is often players the Spurs FO have specific reasons for retaining that aren’t as fun and exciting as a rookie’s highlight reel.
All of us fans make the mistake of slotting players in based on their upside and we are all making these observations from limited information. The truth is that looking back at every draft, a smaller portion of the players make the NBA and excel than how we talk about the next draft class and players available. There is a vast sea of dudes drafted that we never hear from again as you go deeper into the draft, the proportion that do not pan out grows.
Idk, Rupert and GG were still there as good projects but the thing that hurt me the most was Nnaji not falling to 33
If we could have nabbed Nnaji and Cissoko it would have been glorious
Let’s just hope that no one from that 33rd pick onwards becomes an impact player because we’ll be constantly hearing about it going forward.
