There is a change to the CBA that says you can now tack on the 5th year to non-max rookie extensions. It’s possible that he’s looking for a 5/110 type of deal.

100million over 5 years sounds good.

Id rather let him hit RFA and let the market determine his value tbh. I need to see be more consistent before committing that much money to him. He had a slow start to the season (30 games) turned it up then laid an egg in the playoffs. I think we could bite the bullet and take that type of risk if we didnt have Josh Harts extension on the books as well. If he balls out next year we pay him and buy then the FO would probably off loaded RJ or Randle or maybe both depending on how things work

his playoff performance should give the fo some pause on giving him that

Overrated he did nothing in the playoffs twice

Reading people evaluate grimes and iqs game on here is pretty hilarious.

I’d have zero issue with this if he didn’t have such a dud of a playoff run.

I’m looking for 9 figures too

Struggling to see where IQ’s minutes are coming from over the next several years unless major moves are made that I don’t see being made.

Is Thibs really not grooming Grimes to be a 30-35mpg starter ASAP? He loves his size defense and shooting, he plays a more complementary style that serves playing next to brunson and randle well, plus he’s dirt cheap for 2 more years instead of just 1 like IQ. Even if QG is traded, we’re probably doing it for a starting 2/3. Thibs has made pretty clear he doesn’t view Quick as a starting 2. And if we trade for a 3, then RJ slots in at the starting 2 (he’s not being demoted to the bench – zero chance).

By the way, Hart is also perfectly capable of playing SG.

In an ideal scenario for IQ, he gets 13mpg backing up Brunson and about 15 backing up Grimes. I doubt a player who probably thinks he’s starting PG caliber is content with that role for long. To add to that, unless Hart or RJ are filling in at PF (assuming Obi is gone), where are their minutes coming from? The 2 and 3. And it’s pretty clear that Thibs and/or the FO prioritize RJ and Hart’s playing time over Quickley’s…. Now we also might add DiVincenzo??

Unless 2 of Grimes, RJ, and Hart are flipped (or walk, for Hart) and replaced with a single starting wing, I’m pretty confident IQ doesn’t last here much longer, even if it might be a mistake. Not enough minutes to keep him happy, and not enough size at the wing to keep Thibs happy. Depth is great and all, but we can also benefit from maximizing our assets.

  10. He deserves his money and no one will change my mind. If Josh Hart is getting around 20 million from US then there’s no argument imo.

Offensive potential + defensive tenacity will get this man paid

To me fair for both IQ and Hart is in the $16-$18 mil/yr range. I offer IQ that as a guarantee now and if he declines let him hit RFA market next year with another year of data (including hopefully playoff data) in our pocket for evaluation.

I am one of those that want to lock IQ up forever. However 9 figures is pushing it unless we are talking about 5 years.

Not sure if the FO makes a move from now, but I kind of also do not want him testing the market if he has a good season…. I am hoping they come up with an agreement that works for both sides.

I love IQ, but he isn’t worth 110 mil lol
