With the addition of Kyrie Irving, the Dallas Mavericks were supposed to be true contenders in what was a competitive Western Conference. However, the season turned into a nightmare before our very eyes. The Mavs were 9-16 since the trade, had a bottom 5 defense in that span, and didn’t even make the play-in tournament.
But with Kyrie re-signing and with the Mavs getting other notable pieces, it’s clear and obvious that the Mavs are going to be a serious threat to win the West next season.

For starters Luka was hurt a lot of the time after they acquired Kyrie, so those two didn’t develop much on court chemistry. Second of all, they lost many games within just a few points that very easily could’ve gone the other way, and they would’ve been in the playoffs quite easily, and all of that said, they traded away all of their size, defense, and rebounding, if you address those problems, with Kyrie, being a super advanced version of Jalen Brunson And a healthy Luka? I’m betting on them right now in the off-season to win next year.

It’s incredible how in ONE year Dallas went from one young player ( besides the Don Doncic ) to a team with tons of promising youth. I always thought by getting that pick and missing the playoffs could be the best thing that happened to this squad. They needed a shake up and some humility to learn from. Add the draft night success and mavs fans have ALOT to be excited about.
Now we just need a real coach to draw up plays when we need them and know WHEN to call time outs to stop runs. Haven’t heard anything on Jeff Van Gundy coming to take that lead assistant position, so makes me wonder if anyone of experience wants to be Kidds assistant coach.
