Lillard was never the guy who Brad was gonna go all-in on … Gotta think bigger

It will be next summer when Malcolm is expiring and we still have all our picks

His phone will be active with Philly, Milwaukee and Dallas when all three teams flame out again in the playoffs

    – JB: “But the Celtics are not shopping their All-NBA forward. They do not intend to make a low-ball offer to him. There have just been other matters for Brown’s camp and the Celtics to handle first. Sure, there will be some negotiations regarding incentives, but league sources continue to insist that Brown and the Celtics will eventually agree on a super-max deal. Sources said the sides are expected to talk during the Las Vegas summer league, which begins Friday.”

    – Accumulation of draft capital: “This capital will eventually serve as currency in a larger deal, with the Celtics well-positioned for a seismic strike, league sources said. The spree of recent activity has bred speculation that they could be staking out their big move right now, but a league source said that appears unlikely.”

    – re: Dame: “ Along those lines, the Celtics have no intention of entering the Damian Lillard sweepstakes, according to league sources.”

    – misc: “So, what now? The Celtics have two open roster spots. One could go to second-round pick Jordan Walsh, and a new opening could eventually be created with forward Justin Champagnie’s non-guaranteed deal for next season. Boston also received a trade exception worth about $7 million in the Williams sign-and-trade that could be somewhat useful down the road. The list of compelling free agents is relatively sparse. Maybe the team eventually looks to bring back Blake Griffin or former Celtics wing Javonte Green.”

    – Also some team source spin on how the Grant trade was primarily about doing Grant a solid and finding him playing time post Porzingis trade and not about saving ownership money (insert eye roll)

    – Tatum’s reaction to Grant trade: “But one league source said Wednesday that Tatum understood the decision and is primarily focused on the construction of a championship-level roster around him.”

A+ money to a B- player who plays his best basketball in the regular season. Absolute pain.

Seems that “free to spend” actually has a limit. Too bad we don’t have an owner like balmer would’ve been fun to retain grant and go for it.

Can someone tell what it says about Grant?

The issue with waiting for a star is that you run into the issue that the Heat have run into, you end up waiting longer than you think for that to happen.

We’ll see, but it looks like it is paying off for them now

Grant was a limited player who had a pretty bad year overall, but the things he is useful for he is very useful for, and we lost two of the guys that filled those roles defensively in Grant and Smart.

Sure you don’t want to pay an extra $40 million for a role player, but we now have a significant hole defensively in an area that was a real strength before, and it’s going to matter in the playoffs.

As great as D white is defensively, he can’t guard the bigger guys that Smart and Grant could, Tatum isn’t going to be able to play as physical defensively to pick up the slack.

Not really looking forward to seeing Porizingus in the Giannis wall, and I don’t know what we’re gonna do about that.

Seems like they are making the bet that improving offensively with Porizingus along with his rim deterrence, will offset the loss defensively, but I don’t know how much I love those odds.

Losing Smart alone already put our defense in a tougher spot, and losing another useful player for (currently) nothing, doesn’t seem awesome.
