[Gozlan] Montrezl Harrell’s player option amount he declined was $2.76M. His veteran minimum this year is $2.89M thanks to the cap rising. The Sixers would’ve had a $2.76M cap hit in their books had he opted in. Instead his new salary this year will only count as $2.02M. Everybody wins.

Hoopshype cap specialist Yossi Gozlan [addresses](https://twitter.com/YossiGozlan/status/1677159429966532608?t=1NbZDV1cB4KNEe9KILC1TA&s=19) the immediate speculation regarding Montrezl Harrell’s decision to opt out of his player option, only to re-sign with the same team.

Further, Gozlan explains how this roundabout manner of retaining Harrell’s services shaves off his cap hit by $0.74M. Gozlan concludes, “Everybody wins”.

And yet it’s still a roster spot though.

Why? You have 3 Centres already.

  2. Sixers14

He sucks, shouldnt be in nba, and very likely means reed is gone unless morey wants 4 center on this roster, morey should be fired

  3. beforetherodeo

Isn’t he a waste of a roster spot lol

  4. ABagOfPopcorn

He didn’t seem happy on the team for the last few months lmao what the fuck

  5. ABagOfPopcorn

I’m gonna be on the news if they don’t resign Reed

  6. supremehat27

Idk why he didn’t try to go to OKC or something. There’s less media pressure and he could have had Giddey feeding him lobs

This man was being quoted as possibly earning a contract of 20M/year during his 6MOY season. Then he had that disastrous playoffs. Then he took Klutch’s advice and signed for the MLE with the Lakers. Pretty sure CHA was trying to sign him for the longest time too.

I’m just surprised he’d want to return to a team he lost his rotation spot on, but Doc is gone and Embiid will miss games. Every little bit of $$$ saved helps when you’re in the tax.

Paul Reed is overrated for his overall production so far in the NBA including last season but he had some really strong moments in the playoffs. He’s still developing on both ends of the floor, but Sixers going from Niang/Milton/McDaniels/Reed to PatBev, two guys who lost rotation spots due to mediocre play in House/Harrell being back in the rotation, and Bamba, would be a pretty serious decline in ability.

About time I personally win one of these signings

    This doesn’t feel like winning

I’ll say it once and I’ll say it again, Trez messed up his career by playing in the bubble. Dude should have opted out

Seems like a lot of people just didn’t read this post at all? He was a cap hit either way. No way he doesn’t activate his PO. We freed up a little cap space with this. Not at all indicative of Paul Reed’s status either

  14. Harrell will def be first backup C considering Reed is leaving

Except for Giannis when he tries to get some shots up post-game in Phillie.

  16. Hey at least Philly gets to argue that Nurse isn’t the whiniest coach in the league now that he’s arguing on your teams behalf?

    Everyone but us sixers fans

What’s the cap hit if they didn’t re-sign him?

That rounding error is about my salary.
