After losing Fred VanVleet for nothing in free agency, the assumption is that the Toronto Raptors should pivot to a full-scale rebuild and trade Pascal Siakam for young players and picks before he can test free agency a year from now.

But what if VanVleet’s departure actually sets the stage for a stunning, all-in move? Forget tanking, the Raptors should join the Damian Lillard sweepstakes.

    If Dame really wanted to win a chip, he would have never signed an extension and would hav asked for a trade 2 years ago. Imo he made his bed and now has to lay in it. End of the day he’s gonna stay a Blazer.

    Honestly, I'd say offer him, see what he says. Lillard would inject some excitement into the Raptors that we haven't seen since 2019-20 season. I'm sick of the Raptors middling around, unsure of what to do, even though I'm sure Barnes will be more impressive come this season (the sophomore slump is a real thing). He and Siakam would be an interesting tandem.

    I wondered about this. The fit seems pretty good.
    Making the salaries work is really difficult, though. The Raptors have to include so much salary to make up the difference between Barnes' and Dame's contracts.
    I can't really make it work in the trade machine, but teams have better ways to make deals than the trade machine allows. Hard to see Masai pulling it off without some salary cap magic tricks.

    Pretty good video. Dame along with Siakim OG Poelti & Gary Trent jr would be a force in the East. I’m not suprised by the uproar in the comments though. Fans build emotional attachments to the young players on their favorite team so anytime you propose trading young talent to improve the team you’re gonna ruffle some feathers.

    Trade Barnes asap if its for Lillard and if we keep siakam. Win now instead of hoping scottie can rise to be bigger than Siakam.

    Look ik it's just a basketball sim, but Dame went to the Raptors this off-season. They traded pascal for Dame and some how added Clint Capela. Scottie Barnes became a star and they won the chip against the Nuggets in a close 7 game series.

    Raptors didn't lose FVV for nothing – Houston paid way too much and Raptors didn't want to deal with that. If they matched and exceeded that offer, then Raptors would've lost.

    For Lillard, Raptors would have to scrap half the team to match salaries even with Barnes in a package. Secondly (as said on video), I would not want to pay a 35 year old Lillard 63 million to finish out his contract and unlike Kawhi who plays on both end of the court, Lillard is mainly known for going hard January-March, has a few off game, media questions it, he snaps back with loyalty comments like man took a pay cut and gets bounced first round.
