That basically eliminates the chance of the Sixers being able to open up a max slot for next year unless they lose first round in the playoffs or they trade Reed during the season. I’m going to assume they didn’t sign Paul back to trade him, so I see this as honestly somewhat shocking. Paul is a good player, but I don’t think he’s worth $15-16M and the potential of bringing in a star next to Embiid next year on the market.
BBall Paul is overrated to me. But I also think if he can play more 4 vs 5 next to a guy like Bamba, and under the tutelage of a guy like Nurse that has gotten a lot out of bigs his size/athleticism, he could really blossom as a player, especially since he’s Out of the Mud and getting paid and the Sixers brass with this matching decision are really proving to him how much they value his talents.
