Great quote by Horst in here about Giannis being extension eligible in September:

    >I mean, that’s our job. He is the most incredible human, superstar, teammate, leader, I believe, in all of sports and we’re incredibly blessed to have him. It’s an awesome responsibility to win and compete every year to be in a position to keep him.
    >
    >I think that’s my job and that’s my responsibility and it’s my opportunity and his opportunity and our team’s opportunity. And Griff and (Bucks president) Peter Feigin share in that, as do our owners. I think it’s really cool to have that chance to be able to do that.
    >
    >We’ve been able to do it so far, and we’ll do everything we can to do it again.

I’m all for Wigginton as backup PG he deserves a shot instead of some washed up vet

Love the emphasis around youth and athleticism. Pretty happy with the off-season so far though I do hope we actually get a backup PG.

Feels like this summer there was like a 1% chance of the team ending up way better, a 49% chance of running it back and a 50% of disaster. Avoiding disaster is a win in itself.

Really great interview by Eric. He’s invested the time in building relationships throughout the organization and he’s been able to get some really insightful stuff from Horst, Giannis and Coach Bud in the past. Probably won’t be until later in the season but really excited to read his first sit down with Coach Griff when the time comes.

Two things the stuck out to me:

    – When discussing Beasly, Horst went out of his way to emphasize that there will be an open competition for the starting role. When discussing adding youth and athleticism he mentioned wanting to bring in guys who are young and hungry and adding that into the culture of the team.
    – When discussing the backup point guard situation Horst said they are “at peace with where we’re at right now. We’ll see.” Not exactly a ringing endorsement.

Lots of tea leaves to read here about further moves that might get made to the roster. You have a new coach with a strong developmental track record, a bunch of young guys at the wings who are gonna push for playing time and a potential hole to fill at backup PG. Seems like a strong possibility that Grayson and/or Pat could be moved at the deadline if one of the younger guys (including Beasly) can carve out a prominent rotation role.

This dude had the balls to fire Kidd mid season and fired Bud after five successful years. When moves haven’t worked, he’s been quick to rectify them. Even with the cap restraints and us being the not so hot destination of Milwaukee. He knows what he’s looking for and when it’s time to move.

He’s always looking ahead and is a fantastic communicator. Which is exactly what you want in a GM
