[Lou] Through two games… the impression is that the Raptors have less talent as compared to the competition. They feature one first-round pick, undrafted two-way players, and fringe NBA hopefuls. While pedigree doesn’t necessarily define quality, their play also did nothing to show otherwise.

The Raps are operating as a contender. Not surprising they don’t have a good SL roster. Most mid-rebuilding teams make at least 3 picks per draft. Raps have been making 1ish pretty consistently.

Yeah… summer league squad. Featuring none of our rotation players. Big deal.

Our present core is at best a first round exit. And our future core is just a Scottie Barnes and Gradey. We don’t have a surplus of future picks too. Front office fucked this team up

It’s fucking summer league I swear even will has it fucked up. This is all about evaluating where your maybes are and getting an eye on what your higher picks need to work on. Nothing else matters, not the relative talent level, not the level of play and definitely not the outcomes. This has no bearing on the real teams chances in any way. Most of these cats will never make the league.

What happens in summer league means absolutely nothing. All it will reveal is who can’t play.

Oh yeah, our Raptors journalists are finally going HARD on the team and the FO. Anyone who didn’t see this coming and are shocked or somehow mad at the press for finally being critical haven’t read the room in literally every context possible.

Ive only been watching our games and a bit of Wemby (Julian Champagnie looks like a stud) and I just wanna know if anyone knows any unsigned standouts on the other SL team.

  7. Thealk3mist

Koloko can’t join cause he’s Ill. And Malachi / rest of bench guys are too old for SL. Do we have a talent shortage? Yah, sure. But that’s cause our main team is young with players too old for SL. It also can be a sign of players that hadn’t been developed cause of Nurse.

  8. The only problem with SL right now for the Raptors is any of the fringe 13/14/15 players that should be fighting for a roster spot all look awful against the level of talent where they should be competitive. The garbage time/split time in the G-league squad aren’t going to have an impact on the regular season roster because outside of injuries they wont’ be playing meaningful minutes.

The concern with the Raptors is always going to be in their guard depth right now and while SL results are largely irrelevant, outside of seeing some good things from Gradey I’m not seeing individual performance that is promising for help there.

The only relevant player on the SL roster is Dick. We don’t have other premium prospects so I don’t know why people would expect otherwise.

I don’t understand why Sportsnet is basically saying that Toronto’s future is grim based off 2 summer league games, meanwhile, all we care about is Gradey, Brown, and Nowell.

It’s comical to compare this summer league roster to other “talented” teams such as the Cavs who have Mobley on their summer league roster lol.

  11. Da-Wang

Honestly I’ve never seen people care so much about a summer league team

  12. ImmaFunGuy

Reflective of the actual roster against the rest of the league too

  13. AnotsuKagehisa

Wieskamp so bad. Can’t sink his shots, terrible defensively.

Is stating the obvious considered content now? Just waiting for the follow up tweet confirming that water is still, in fact, wet

The only downside to raising the level of your Franchise like what the Raps did in the last ten years is everything will get scrutinized and everyone wants success in every level. I guess the changing almost the entire coaching and the long ass coach hiring process is catching up to us now. What I am more interested in is did we reset our developmental process. Did protocols change from previous coaching staff in regards so maybe its adjustment period we’re seeing here.

This was for 2 summer league games with Koloko not in it. Let’s not do this yet lol

As Will Lou’s head continues to expand, both physically and metaphorically, is his brain physically shrinking in tandem? Sure seems like it.

  18. averagecyclone

I know its summer league but there was a time that our teams featured 2-3 of: OG, Siakam, Poetlel, FVV, Powell, DeLon Wright etc.

The headline is correct to say we don’t have young talent in the pipeline to get excited about like years past and this is a problem when your NBA roster isn’t much to get excited about either

  19. Barnicus53

It’s summer league. Who honestly gives a fuck? The only people who need to actually care are the guys playing for jobs. Otherwise this observation is totally meaningless when looking at the bigger picture.

People are freaking out about prospects as if this is baseball, lol. The Raptors roster is basically set, so these fringe NBA players fighting for a G-League spot doesn’t really move the needle at the moment.

  20. The-Pharcyde

Really not much a shock here lol. Its literally our lottery pick and some dudes.

Yeah they do look pretty bad. Their defence is pretty invisible and I’m more worried about coaching than anything else on that front.

I’d say Dick looks like a gamer. His shot looks fine and he can take it in a lot of different ways on the court. He uses his length and has some hustle for those live ball/defensive situations. He should be able to find a good nba role this year.

Marquis is a classic issue. He looks like a player who wants to prove he can stick in the NBA using offence when it’ll have to come from consistent offensive decision making and a few special passes a game, and tenacious defence. He Shiism be a pick and roll threat with his passing threat so maybe that’s why he was going to his floater so much.

Brown looks interesting, and I’m biased towards big guys. A little concerned on his defensive rebounding positioning. Goes for the big block. Again an issue I think of trying to find that thing that will get him a contract when just stable rebounding would be nice in a player that size.

That’s it. There isn’t much else there.
