Ya, you suck bro
On one hand I appreciate his candidness. On the other, what a very strange way to say that.
He did what’s best for the team. It was a hard route to take but you guys will be thanking him in 5 years for not trading scoot for siakam
I honestly wish we had a more robust GM. I don’t blame Joe for everything but goddamn an experienced GM would have handled this a lot better.
Don’t forget Dame publicly stating he didn’t want go young screws Joe too . Every FO knew at that point they had Joe by that bag and could drive all the prices .
Edit : grammar
Just because you could doesn’t mean you should. Joe not trading away our future and assets just to please Dame is the right move.
This fanbases expectations for a GM is so low that you have half this fanbase praising Cronin for admitting failure lol, even after all the excuses and contradictions he made in his presser. Any other GM would’ve gotten fired for running dame out of town.
This was an interesting quote, and struck me as Cronin saying drafting Scoot gives us a better shot at a championship than trading away all our assets to run it back with Dame +1 above average star. I think we can all agree with this analysis.
The reality was: draft a generational Scoot Henderson or trade for a decent all star like siakam that helps get Portland to the 2nd round and then might leave for nothing.
That’s just suicide for a small market.
too many of you would have gladly shipped out scoot and sharpe for 1 year of siakam or something similar.
clowns.
Fact of the matter is even the greatest GM ever wasn’t going to be able to fix the mess Olshey left and turn it into a contender. Credit to Cronin for doing what he could while also looking out for the future of the franchise
Would have required tradeing Sharpe. Maybe if a superstar were available, but none were.
Honestly landing Scoot just kind of changed everything. I bet if we ended up with a pick 4 or below we trade it and go more of the “win now” route that Dame wanted & he doesn’t leave. It’s just when you happen to luck into a prospect like Scoot, you gotta take him. People give GMs so much shit and honestly rightfully so for not taking the best player available & drafting for fit in the lottery. There wasn’t anything he could really do… you gotta take Scoot, but he just so happens to play the same position as Dame, so obviously Dame isn’t gonna be happy about it since it doesn’t really help him win right now at all. It’s like being a franchise quarterback and asking for help and they draft a backup QB in the 1st round. ‘cept in this case, it’s even harder to avoid because Scoot was just obviously so much better than anyone left on the board and legitimately could be a franchise cornerstone for the next 10+ seasons.
SO yeah maybe he “failed” Dame but I don’t think he failed the Blazers or the fans and I don’t think he could’ve or should’ve done anything else… this coming from a Blazer fan who’s had Dame’s back since day 1 and has been my favorite player since his first season. It’s just the reality and how things worked out, Blazers were lucky enough to get Scoot but it means you don’t trade this pick for Siakam or whoever (and honestly probably end up missing out on a championship anyway because I don’t know what we could’ve possibly traded for that gets us out of the West.)
Short of drafting Wemby it’s probably the best case scenario the Blazers could’ve hoped for. Dame’s got every right to want out. I even kind of support him wanting to go to the Heat. He does deserve it. And I’m glad we got Scoot. And Cronin is doing everything he can to get the best deal for the franchise, so good on him too. Even if Dame wasn’t stuck on Miami IDK what else more we could get. Best idea I’ve heard is him going to Toronto for a package centered around Scottie Barnes. But in reality the Blazers future purely depends on how good Scoot/Shaedon/Simons end up being individually and together and how we build the roster around that in the future.
BULL SHIT!!!! You over valued your position, refused to make good on being “ridiculously aggressive” or what ever the fuck you said to string Dame along, and drove out the greatest Blazer ever. Fucking incompetent GM with a lame duck owner. SELL THE TEAM! And clean house.
Kinda confirms what I was thinking in terms of his promises to Dame, he could’ve tried harder with the “win now” timeline, but he probably didn’t see a realistic option that would truly turn the team into a championship team without screwing up the future with Sharpe and Ant (assuming he stays)
Certainly do not envy his job at all and he seems to be operating with an intent to win, but does not see if viable with Dame’s contract and current trade market
Uhhhhh no shit?
Smart statement by Cronin. He’s making a point of presenting himself as someone that is not perfect and can make mistaskes, and does not push is blame towards others.
The other side only cares about making demands, doing bad taste remarks, and presenting an insane level of entitlement.
Let’s not forget that it would have also taken Ant to get that “star,” and Sharpe is still developing. So that better be a double fine player and a big pinch of health and luck.
I mean obviously he wants to keep his job…. So he goes young
ofc you failed Dame you incompetent f*ck! 2 years of Dame’s prime wasted
