[Smith] D’Angelo Russell’s new two-year contract with the Los Angeles Lakers is guaranteed for $36M, a league source told @spotrac. The second season is a player option. Russell has $700K in incentives in each season of the deal. In addition, Russell waived his implied no-trade clause.

Before anyone is confused on this “implied no-trade clause”, there’s a CBA rule that any player that re-signs with their previous team on a two year deal with a second year option has the ability to veto any trade. This implies what everybody has been saying, D’Lo is a prime trade candidate during the season.

Trade DLo for Brook Lopez again

Very solid deal for us. I know people are down on D’lo but in the regular season as a Laker he shot 41% from 3 and 50% on catch and shoot 3s.

We’re a team that *needs* shooting with AD, Lebron, Vando all being heavy rotation players that were poor 3 point shooters last year. Not to mention we lost Beasley.

$18M for a player who can play well on and off ball and shoots ~40% from 3 is a steal

Oh he is a team player by waiving that clause. Wow

As the 3rd/4th option this is a great deal. But I’m honestly thinking who you can trade Russell for that fills the role of a secondary playmaker/scoring guard. DLo is inconsistent but honestly I don’t see many PG upgraded that can be had without packaging him with someone else.

Don’t love the player option but probably was necessary to get him to waive his NTC

LOL, you people want to trade Dlo and do not have a target nor idea.

I hope it works out with DLo this season. He might have stunk it up in the playoffs but he’s been a professional this whole time, and good energy/presence with the team.
Just need to get him some defense coaching so he’s more playable in tight games and the playoffs.

Think of how much coco5 he can push. Great deal for Dlo.
