  1. Agreed Cam wasn’t effective because there really wasn’t a point guard that really sets him up to get to his spots.

Besides that he really needs to work on his shot selection he can’t be shooting those step back shots and shoot over people. Coach got to drill that in him that he needs to have better shot selection.

Besides that Cam is raw but the talent is there it’s going to take a minute for him to develop so people don’t expect Cam to play much year one he going to be in the G-league working on his game. Excited to see Cam slowly develop

  2. @JT, What did you think of Nate Hinton, he was all over the place like a Tari clone with his tenacious defense and shot/drove pretty well. Gotta call out my fellow Houston Cougs when they do well.

  3. Cam has great anticipation and instant burst to get into the passing lane and make steals. Dude gets to full speed instantly

  4. I like the in-season tournament idea.
But I would like to see a tournament for draft position, played by teams that don’t make the playoffs because the lottery is suspect.

  5. As an off-ball player, I think Cam Whitmore did as well as he possibly could have with all those guys that aren't likely to make rosters. Tons of guys that don't really know how to move the ball, lots of chucking, and playing solo ball because they're trying to make the team and not playing 'real' basketball. As such, he forced up a few way too deep 3's because he wasn't going to get the ball back doing normal sets or cutting and took it upon himself to try to take the ball up court for the same reasons, which led to several careless turnovers. I don't detract anything from how I view him as a player from this 3rd game because he will never be playing that bonkers pseudo-role when the season starts. He'll get back to his strengths, being able to slash, crash, come off screens, move without the ball, and shoot spot up jumpers. He won't be so kept out of rhythm, have to go iso and create for himself because there's no plays being run or player to facilitate, force trying to dribble too much and bring the ball up to try to get into the game.

  6. As for 2-way possibilities, I was considerably impressed by Matthew Mayer's showing. He looked pretty athletic, vacuumed up plenty of contested rebounds, had some handles, and has a really, really nice stroke from 3. His size is also nice as a stretch forward and he showed some flashes of really good vision, too. Looking forward to seeing him in the next game and another because I think we'll make the SL final 4.

  7. The play in tournament seems to have been very much modelled on the UEFA champions league in soccer. In each league in Europe they have their own leagues but in addition there is a tournament when teams are ranked in pots so in NBA terms the top 3 seeds in the West would be pot 2, seeds 4-6 would be in pot 2 etc. UEFA would then pick one team from each pot to make the group so all the best teams don’t end up in one group. This seems to be what the NBA has done. After the group stages the teams progress to a knock out tournament. This is a very tried and tested system in non-American sport and gives teams who have little chance of winning the whole league a trophy to aim for. It is very well received in other sports, so as a Houston fan is something I welcome because we could beat a team in a one off game where we couldn’t win over a whole season. This means we have a chance to win something next season. Also with there being so few games to win the whole tournament you get surprises which adds interest to fans.

  8. Making 3s is cute, but you don't need to give Matthew Mayer a 2 way spot off of a SL game. Plus no one is bidding against you for an undrafted 5 year forward that averaged 8 pt in college. Invite him to camp on an Exhibit10, and cut him in camp so you can designate him for the G-league. Rockets should keep that spot open and scout around the league during roster crunches for more bankable talent.

I will say, they should keep Nate Hinton around for training camp, because he plays the type of high intensity, high pressure defense that UH is famous for, and it will good to have that in camp to test the young guards like Jalen Green and Amen Thompson

  9. Cam is too good, his potential is Melo with defense or Jaylen Brown with better handles. He has all the talents already, its just a matter of developing him and more experience. Hope they put him in GLeague so he doesnt get wasted on the bench, he just needs to keep playing. Make him a playmaker in Gleague and get better drive moves. He literally is Jaylen Brown 2.0 already without NBA experience atm, so he has better potential. Same weaknesses.
