[Murray] How much does the NBA change over in 5 years? None of the 30 NBA teams have more than 4 players left from the 2018-19 rosters …. 8 teams have no players left from the 2018-19 season

It is kind of wild looking at a semi loaded team like the Cavaliers and realising they built that team from scratch within 5 years.

    Darius Garland / Ricky Rubio

    Donovan Mitchell / Caris LeVert

Max Strus / Georges Niang / Isaac Okoro

    Evan Mobley / Dean Wade

    Jarrett Allen / Damian Jones

    Props to Koby Altman.

    Cool post.

That smart trade still finding ways to hurt me

funny how it’s only the atlantic and pacific divisions where all teams got at least one player from the 18-19 team

Ok but 4 players is 1/3rd of the roster. Are there many sports where more than a 1/3rd of the roster remains the same after 6 years (5 and an off-season currently)?

A fourth of the Pistons active roster from that year is now a NBA champion.

I really don’t like it. There are hardly players that we can identify with a team.
The players should be paid but also have more incentives to stay, both as free agent and also in terms of trade protection.

What’s funny is we lost one of our 3 between 19 and now, with Horford, but he’s back now!

  8. And the Spurs, Heat, Warriors, and Nuggets are the only teams that have not changed their head coach since the 2019-2020 season.

Seems like four players is enough to count as a team’s core. I’d expect the role-players to change fairly frequently

Charlotte’s being Miles Bridges is very fitting of Charlotte

This isnt that crazy. 4 players is realistically half of the relevant playoff roster in most cases.

20% of players are out of the league each year. That’s 90 players. The average career is only 4.5 years. It’s rough out there.

  13. It’s worth the noting that the teams who have 4 players from the 18-19 roster are the ‘22 champs and runner ups, ‘22 western conference runner up, and the ‘21 champs. And the heat and Denver both have 3 with Miami adding Jimmy to those 3

Really confused for a sec why smart wasn’t there for Boston 🙁

This is why it doesn’t make sense to be as obsessed with “timelines” and “windows” as a lot of people can be when talking about 3rd, 4th etc. best players on a team. No team just puts together a dynasty and lets it role for 5 years. Even the dynasties we have had since the 90s have basically been a couple of core pieces and everything else is interchangeable.

I mean it’s always been like this, NBA teams usually have a high turnover rate
