[Marks] The feeling is that Phoenix is borrowing a line of credit against other NBA teams at a high interest rate. Either the pick swap plan works brilliantly or the Suns will be bankrupt in terms of draft equity.

We’re going to have a first in those swap years no matter what. Where that pick is we don’t know.

But what I’m seeing out of this organization is that we’re going to be trading those firsts for more seconds anyways.

  2. beer_down

Fuck the future. It’s 118 degrees in Phoenix today, we’re all fucked anyway. Gotta win now

  3. FireAndBud11

Seems like that’s essentially it. Kicking those first rounders back while picking up seconds and creating TPEs to maintain some semblance of roster flexibility.

  4. fuzzynavel34

Ahhh the ol’ HELOC strategy. Almost never works out.

If you’re in for a penny you may as well be in for a pound. The theory of it makes sense to me, no half-measures.

If they win a ring its all worth it

As long as Booker is loyal and likes supermax money, it’s not a big deal. They’ll go through the Kobe post Shaq years once Durant is old. Free agency will be the way. 27-32 year old Booker will have the chance to destroy Brooklyn’s picks.

This was the problem with Nets-Celtics trade. KG, Pierce, Joe Johnson, Deron were all ancient. There was no eject button if the trade went wrong.

Call me a doomer but man, this DBook-KD-Beal trio reminds me of the Brooklyn big 3. In fairness to Brooklyn big three they were great when they actually shared the floor, but one has to wonder how far this Suns core can go without any elite defender. KD ain’t getting any younger either and Beal is quite prone to injury as well. I guess KD did say offense wins you a championship lol

The r/wallstreetbets strategy. Borrowing against a LOC in hopes of hitting it big

  10. Handyman2116

This is the best chance of Suns winning a title, maybe ever. Fuck em picks and go all in

  11. boomeroni1234

They’re just going all in before the cba consequences kick in

Not entirely bankrupt as they will have a first round pick this next season of course. And realistically, the picks through 2026 at least should be 25-30th regardless. It’s a smart play because they actually do have some draft capital they can use in trades to obtain another high level talent, using Ayton’s salary. They’re playing for the here and now and these deals give them more flexibility to improve their roster in the short term, which is ultimately the mission in Phoenix.

The nets showed that you can build a reasonable team without picks to start with. I’d argue that teams WITH their own picks are way more of a threat to bottom out to an absolute extreme because they are incentivized to do it. Like we’re seeing with the rockets this season when you can’t reap the benefits of tanking you simply don’t tank and try to have a decent fun team.

What is the realistic window? Next 2 years?

  15. gonzagylot00

If they win a championship, then it will be worth it.

It’s clear they’re in championship or bust mode. The Suns give zero fucks about the future, they have solid scoring core….just need to get them to defend.

I don’t see a blowup happening with these three. First, it seems like they’ve already established the pecking order between them – which can cause conflict. (It’s clear it’s Book – KD – Beal), and Book and Beal are no drama..and I think KD’s drama has more been a result of the people around him.

Bigger concern is injuries, imo..but I also don’t think we’re as locked in as people fear. As long as Ishbia doesn’t mind paying, we can move KD (as an expiring) or Ayton for decent return. Book and Beal are close enough to the same age that they should be decent pieces to keep around through at least another contract (potentially for both)

  18. 1. New Owner gets PR wins
    2. New Owner goes all-in on championship contention **<- We are here**
    3. Vets get injured, one conference Finals appearance, cheerleader new owner in every other shot that pans to fans
    4. Window collapses, new owner has some minor off-court “situation”
    5. Team has no assets to rebuild, new owner “takes hands off approach”
    6. new front office, team starts long slow rebuild.
    7. First picks bust out–Take 2–restart rebuild
    8. Promising Young core

  19. ironcastedpan

Kinda poetic since their owner is a ceo of a mortgage firm

  20. Buckus93

If they win a championship and then proceed to suck for a decade, it’ll have been worth it.

  21. BrewtusMaximus1

If they’re going to blow through the second apron consistently and have pick 30 either way, this is just playing with house money.

  22. i-need-cheesecake

They’re doing the go big or go home approach. We’ll see if it works. It didn’t for the past two years lol

  23. _Jetto_

didnt yall give billy king shit for this??? albeit he got washed players

  24. RippedHookerPuffBar

It seems like every year we have a handful of teams that are championship caliber. The only thing that stops them is timing/injuries. The clips tried their best against the suns and there just wasn’t anything we could do. Book was fucking unstoppable and then you have KD as a backup. They added more fire power this off season, I’m excited to see what they can do.

  25. Vanilathunder73

This is similar to what the rams did but it’s crazy to put so much on a credit card for 7 years.

  26. ak80048

Ironic since the owner is literally a loan shark
