Jonas Valanciunas has been on the trade block all offseason for the New Orleans Pelicans. But if they can’t get back a player like Pascal Siakam to pair with Zion Williamson and Brandon Ingram could they just do nothing and keep Jonas? Jake Madison breaks down why the Pels are looking to trade Valanciunas and if they could just keep him around for next season.

Do you want to trade Jonas Valanciunas? Who do you want the Pels to get back?
Let's geaux Pelicans!
What we need is good health🤞🏾🤞🏾.
I like Jonas, agree he is underrated, but $15 mil is a lot for a guy Willie sits in the last 2:00.
why they didnt get bol now he going to phx
What do you think about trading for Clint Capella?
Erry day Jake 😂
Poor Jake, i love the work he does for locked on pelicans and i hate how Zion Williamson is hurting 🤕 the team that Jake with the Great take represents and adores so much. P.S. you better appreciate Jonas Val before a piss poor team like my home town Chicago Bulls snap him up. EVERY TEAM NEEDS A JONAS V.
I love Jonas liability sometimes on D we'll miss his rebounding and his professionalism
Take me for a ride Jake 😊
Please no Val for another season
Daniel Gadford???

Good question
I honestly feel Jonas Is Key For a Deep Playoff Run
You get rid of Jonas you lose that big body the deal with the Joker and Steven Adams
This will be a bit long, but I do have a question; or at the very least a subject I'd like you to address in the off season if you get around to it. The new CBA is obviously going to create a ton of changes in how franchises are able to structure teams. I liked the previous CBA's idea of max / supermax contracts based on years of service in the NBA. That helps keeping teams from paying one player an ungodly sum over a long period of time than handcuffs a team like the Timberwolves did with KG back in the day. But the way things are starting to look, franchises seem to be able to afford TWO max / supermax contracts per team (THREE if a team is willing to pay into the luxury tax) and the rest of the players will be fighting over what is left over under the salary cap. (Over simplification I know, just seems how things look to be shaping up.) How will that affect players who are not supermax talent in the long run. We're all huge fans of Herb and TM III. But I don't think any of us would consider them supermax players, yet they do deserve to get paid and provided how they play this season and next…a raise. Are we entering an NBA era where non max players will be fighting for a share of what's left over after the stars get paid, which shouldn't vary too much from team to team. (Outside the franchises that ALWAYS pay into the luxury tax.) And that raises another question. Teams that buy into the luxury tax. In your opinion, is it better to have THREE stars and lesser supporting players? Or do you think it will be wiser in the future to have TWO stars and have a better supporting cast?
Sorry for the long multi level question. But I and many others are trying to visualize how the new CBA will affect the league over the course of the next several seasons.
I don’t know how available he would be, but a cheaper Jarrett Allen could be Kevon Looney.
If they trade Jonas they gon be back where they always are. The Pelicans don’t know how to keep core players together and build. I really don’t like how lazy this organization always have been when it comes to player development and building. Spurs and Warriors showed us the blueprint already but hey what do I know.
PELICANS HEALTH 🙏🏻
Jonas is one of the team's best defenders. Not because he gets steals. Not because he blocks shots. Because he rebounds missed shots, ends opponents' offensive possessions, and limits 2nd attempts.
Somewhere in the NBA is a hungry, young center that is on the bench, on a two-way, in the G-League, that wants to get on the court so badly that he doesn't even think about scoring: all he wants to do is rebound every loose ball, and block all the shots that comes his way. If the Pelicans find that guy, I'm personally driving Jonas to the airport myself.
I honestly believe that trading CJ makes more sense, and will yield a better return. If the Knicks are Top Four to Six in the East near the trade deadline, I think we should offer CJ, and Jose for Mitchell Robinson, Donte DiVincenzo, and Immanuel Quigley. They might appreciate his offense and veteran playoff experience, as they make a push for Top Three.
At that point, Kira would probably be already traded, and Trey has replaced CJ in the starting lineup. This brings Mitchell in to replace Jonas who will be leaving on an expiring contract, and we enter 2024-25 with enough cap space to re-sign Trey.
God i hope not….

Jake what do you think of Liam Robbins or Karlo Matkovic at center? I know they are both projects but they have the skill set and are more agile than Jonas. I was hoping to see Robbins in summer league
Don’t like the idea of trading for Siakam.. he plays the same position as Zion and don’t think he could play center. And he is a ball dominant guy. We don’t need that. Might already have too many cooks in the kitchen as is. Need a role playing defensive center, if that exists.

Zeller was the 4th pick in the draft, Jake. He's got this.
