    Gotta treat the players right.

    Goes a long way.

1 star player after Bron is gone is better than no star players. Hope we can get another player for AD after Bron retires.

Absolutely hope they do this. Assuming this is Lebron’s last year we could be going into next year with AD, a bunch of great role players, and cap space. That’s a great recipe to attract another star, and even if we don’t it’s still a good team.

Even if we want to move on and fully rebuild we should re-sign him so we can trade him for assets and not lose him for nothing. Although selfishly I hope we keep him

Of course he is. I never bought the “Lakers aren’t making that a priority” bullshit lol it wouldn’t make any sense not to try to keep him and honestly it wouldn’t make sense for him to seek money elsewhere given his injury history.

Dude is gonna spend most of his career here and I’m happy to have him.

On one hand, I’d say it’s nice he trusts the Lakers front office so much.

On the other hand, with the way players request trades these days, you might as well take as much guaranteed money as possible and just request a trade if you ever really want to leave a team.

Never had any doubts about him re-signing. This is all just negotiating and money business.

Extending him makes sense for both sides. AD with his injury history gets a long term guaranteed contract. The Lakers have a star to build around when Lebron leaves and if he requests a trade then they get a haul of young players/picks back to start a rebuild. With the moves they made at the deadline and free agency it doesn’t look like they want to go full rebuild after Lebron and are set up to have cap space for a max player in 25 or 26 to replace Lebron. In 25 offseason JHS, Reaves, Rui, Vincent, Lewis combine for 50m, which with the cap expected to be close 165m for the 25-26 season, is about 30%. Plus whatever Christie gets and their pick next year or in 25. In 26 most are UFAs. Vincent could always be traded if they need a little more cap space.

In 25 the players currently set to be free agents are Giannis, Tatum, Mitchell, Ingram, Butler, Murray, Lauri. I’d expect Tatum (supermax), Butler, Murray and Mitchell (if he gets another All NBA for supermax) to re-sign/extend but the others are question marks.

In 26 there’s Luka, Curry, Trae, Fox, Bridges, Bam, Embiid, JJJ. Curry isn’t leaving GS and Luka will be supermax eligible so he’s unlikely to leave as a FA.

Most of these players paired with AD and our other guys would keep us in contention.

AD stay – we rejoice! Love that man

Love to see it. After all he’s been through the man deserves a reward

This article gives a hat tip to Lakers Nation, who originally pulled and published the Dave McMenamin’s quote from the Zach Lowe podcast.

Frankly, links from Lakers Daily should be banned because they’re either publishing fluff clickbait or poaching content from other sites.

  11. That will be my favorite move of the off season.

No brainer for the Lakers to extend him or just trade him. Only thing i want again is for him to take a little paycut due to his injuries like he did when he re-signed.

Luka/Shai will look great with him 🔥
