Top of G-League, maybe even the finals.

It’s definitely amongst the league and that’s for sure.

  3. compared to teams like the Rockets, Thunder, etc who have 6-7 young players with star potential our “young core” is pretty miserable. but that’s what happens when you don’t bottom out for multiple seasons and accumulate a surplus of draft picks.

at least we didn’t have to suffer through multiple seasons of borderline unwatchable basketba- oh wait

I think it’s way too early to include Gradey (or any other rookies aside from Wemby) in any ranking.

Like many others, I’m a bit down on the roster right now. But, I can’t forget how excited I was for this core last summer, and felt like we’d be in pretty good shape.

I still feel very optimistic that a couple of our young and unproven guys will really prove themselves to be solid rotation players this coming season with a new coach, and a bigger focus on development. So I really think that a couple guys out of Precious, Koloko, Gradey, McDaniels, can really show some consistency and earn steady minutes in the rotation. That would really help the future of this team, because there are so many question marks outside of our top 6 right now.

I do genuinely think that fans (and media) overrate young cores, because there’s really no accountability in these rankings. For example, when Masai took over the Raptors we had a young core of Demar/Kyle/JV, which would probably have been considered among the worst cores in the league, but they did really well and eventually became either a key piece or key trade piece of the championship team.

Personally, I think that teams get too much credit for “young cores” who don’t do anything. The Magic, Pistons, and Pacers all apparently have great young cores, but the teams all stink. We should be giving them credit once they actually start winning games.

They might not be much better than the guys playing in the CEBL (which is a fantastic league).

We have a young core of which we have proven players. We do not have a bunch of prospects.

Pascal is the oldest at 29, not exactly ancient in today’s NBA where stars (especially talented wings like Pascal) perform at a high level into their mid 30s.

OG at 26, McDaniels at 25, GTJ at 24, Precious at 24, Koloko at 23, Scottie at 22, Gradey at 19.

7/10 of our likely rotation guys are 26 or younger. Sure, some teams like the Rockets or Magic or Pistons can sit around and be excited that maybe multiple of their young guys become stars and they become championship-caliber teams, but they could also never make it out of the lottery if those young players don’t turn out like they often don’t.
