[Sport5] Washington (Wizards) decided: Deni Avdija will not take part in the Israeli national team this summer. Despite the previous message of the NBA (probably meant NBA team), his team reached a decision that he won’t be able to join the Israeli national team this summer due to a thigh injury.

    Continuation:

“Due to a thigh injury he suffers from…”

It is based upon this statement on twitter (I mean X):

[The Israeli Basketball Association (IBBA), which is in charge of the local Israeli league and the Israeli national team, released this statement earlier.](https://twitter.com/TherealIBBA/status/1683767587899838464?s=20)

Another relevant parts from this article:

“The Israeli national team in basketball will begin the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournament on August 12th, with games against Macedonia, Czech Republic and Estonia.

The Israeli national team will be heading soon to a prepartion tournaments in Hungary and Latbia.”

P.S: Also Noam Yaacov won’t take part.

I quoted Sport5 instead of IBBA at first because I noticed this because of tweets by Sport5 journalists.

    Edit: According to Neil Dalal:

[Deni Avdija would have loved to represent his country, but this was always going to be the smart play entering a contract year with a new front office. The injury is not believed to be serious, unlike last summer’s groin injury that he played through during EuroBasket.](https://twitter.com/NeilDalal96/status/1683809037362634753)

Disappointed that I won’t get to watch him this summer, but if he truly takes this time to work on his game, he’ll be all the better for it.

He has all the tools that can make him a great basketball players. It’s not just the fans thinking that either, it seems like the whole wizards organisation, for better or for worse, backed Deni.

This is the year though, year 4, contract year, wizards fully rebuilding. Although I’m nowhere near as optimistic as I used to be, there’s no better time, no better opportunity to take a team with no expectations and make it his own.

This is a smart move on his part. Dude has a huge payday on the horizon, and he needs to be at, or near 100% to start Wizards camp.

  4. Contractyearitis! Very curable. Smart move. Get yourself back to DC and start ballin

This is great news!! Not that he has a (very minor) injury, but that he’s getting with the FO offseason program rather than the Israeli one.

He really didn’t have much to gain from playing with Israel so I’m glad he won’t go. The team will play at the pre qualifiers for the Olympics and even with Deni they don’t have a good chance of making it to the qualifiers. Even if somehow they makw it to the qualifiers they don’t even stand a chance to actually get to the Olympics. Hope he comes back next season and shows legitimate improvement with a bigger role.

I imagine Wes Unseld Jr just sat down in front of Deni, leaned back in his chair and folded his arms. Deni knew he couldn’t comeback from that.
