  1. It’s hard for our bigs to rebound if they checking their man out on the perimeter it’s has to be a collective effort not just our bigs

  2. What hurts our rebounding more than anything is our defensive scheme… We don’t have good on ball defenders and we run people off the 3point line so Allen or Mobley have to help and this causes our defense to rotate.

When our defense roatated against the Knicks often times they would miss the first shot but due to rotations we would have Caris Levert, Green or Mitchell trying to Box out Mitchel Robinson and he ate them up. We couldn’t adjust in part because Allen was struggling with Robinson 1 on 1 but also because we didn’t have good enough on ball defenders aside from okoro.

The Knicks would force us to switch and rotate and we got abused on the glass.

This is where we missed Lauri (and even with Lauri we struggled rebounding) because he could hold his own far better against another big than our guards could! And where Robin Lopez was a huge liability as a your back up center because we had no one other than Allen and Mobley.

This year we added Niang who although isn’t a great rebounder is a bigger body and Damien Jones who is atleast an NBA level athlete! They are smaller moves but should help if needed!

  3. Luke TRAVERS!!! The wing defender, heart and hustle to help Mobley fuel a top defense with our small back court with more shooting all around. He would compete for minutes in the SF rotation

  4. Rebounding issues vs. the Knicks:

Offensive-lack of spacing allows the Knicks to keep 2 to 3 players foot in the paint, putting Allen or Mobley to rebounding against 2 Knicks at all times.

Defensive-too much switching on defense putting our perimeter players on a Knick big and fatigue. Frobley are tall but not stout. If JB expanded his rotation to play Lamar and Wade to backup Frobley could have helped. If JB was would have switch to a 3 2 zone from man D, that could have helped too.

    Solution to Rebounding:

Offensive-bringing in Strus, LeVert, Niang, and Jerome allows more 1 on 1 chances for Allen and Mobley to get an offensive rebound.

Defensive-Moving Mobley closer to the basket in a 3 2 zone defense will help this out. We brought in shooting but gave up foot speed on defense. We have to play more zone to deal with this lost.

Doing these changes will have both Allen and Mobley averaging double digit rebounds. Thoughts?

  5. The simple fact is that JA is soft! The guy who humiliated Allen, bullied him, dominated him in rebounds, said Allen was “shook”. No respect, showed Allen is a punk. To try and blame others is lame and nonsense. Levert had more rebounds than Allen. Moreover, Allen said the lights were too bright for him, not the Cavs. DG, Mobley and Okoro had first playoff, Allen? It was his 3rd playoff, he has been trash in everyone.

  6. Crazy to think Allen and Mobley need to be more aggressive on the boards when they both damn near averaged a double double last season. I believe they both got the dog in em…and I'll be shocked if we don't see them continue to improve and carry that momentum into the postseason!

  7. The Knicks also were packing the paint and the Cavs couldn't hit the outside shot when the ball was kicked out . That left Allen and Mobley often battling 3 or 4 guys for the rebound . I think it's a large part of the reason the Cavs went for shooting rather than rebounding in FA .

  8. 1.Struss and Niang should help floor spacing. Knicks pounded boards because they didn't have to worry about outside shots. 2. Realize that blocks are worthless if the results are offensive rebounds. 3. If not bulking up in weight room, roid up.
