Both Jays have a tendency to put their head down and go 100mph once they have made the decision to drive to rim during a set play. Tatum not as much but he still does it.
It makes them so much more susceptible to turning the ball over. If they could take a page out of someone like Jimmy’s or PG13 book and slow themselves down when appropriate and let the game come to them it would probably benefit them. Make the mid range shot a thing again too.
I think they’ll both grow as decision makers / play makers this season with the addition of KP.

Well he was certainly right that it was harsh, but I can’t really disagree with any of what he said, either. The C’s started off last season with a much more dynamic, much more motion heavy offense, and that simply faded away after the first couple months of the season before pretty much becoming nearly the exact same offense from last playoffs and it left the offense much more predictable and easier to counter.
Offensively Porzingis should help a lot as he gives the C’s a truly dynamic offensive front court threat which the team has been missing for some time now, and while Smart’s playmaking will be missed, I can’t say that I’ll miss seeing teams sag off of him late. When healthy Porzingis should give the team a much needed boost when it comes to trying to break zone defenses alongside Tatum.
Defensively I wonder if we’ll see the Celtics take some cues from the Heat when it comes to zone concepts, especially as the team seems poised to move away from the switch heavy defensive schemes of years past with Smart gone on top of no longer having a big capable of stepping out onto the perimeter full time(Horford has finally lost enough speed on the perimeter that I wouldn’t trust him to switch a ton in the playoffs, and Rob while a capable defender in ISO situations is nowhere close to what Horford was even 2 seasons ago).
Regardless I think the C’s did need a shakeup, and Porzingis is it. Hopefully it finally leads to breaking through and capturing banner 18.

One of the things that really plagued us is not being able to punish switches with our bigs. You see the Nuggets and see how Gordon got like 10 points straight just diving and finishing.
I don’t think it’s a coincidence that we struggled against switchable bigs that were able to contain Jaylen or Jayson

i’ve been saying forever that jaylen brown needs to play more off-ball as he’s the best off-ball player on the team and most of his issues come when the ball is in his hands. but he’s a great cutter, spot-up shooter, just a good play finisher. he is not a good play initiator and he’s not good at creating offense for others.
this is why i’m a bit worried about JB after the Smart trade. he and smart had great chemistry – it felt like Smart found JB on multiple back door cuts a game. Porzingis doesn’t really do anything to get the ball to other teammates in a good position to score. so it feels like after this trade we’re gonna get less off-ball jaylen and more of him as a play initator. which doesn’t seem promising..
