Alex and Gavin are joined by Prez (@_prezidente on Twitter) of The Strickland to get into their most important skills for the Knicks to work on this offseason. Independently, we all chose an RJ Barrett skill, so this is officially the RJ Barrett episode! Does RJ most need to work on playmaking, shooting, or finishing? And could accepting a more focused role be the key to becoming his best self?

Thanks for another great episode!
Playing basketball
At what point do we just say this is who he is?
Iāve commented this in a video before. You are correct that he improved after game 2 cavs. You have to run the numbers without the first two games to see it. He shot 40% from 3 if you ignore the first two cavs games. You keep commenting on āit seemed like he did better after that game, but he didnāt.ā While talking about numbers that include the first two games. Iām not a big RJ guy but this is straight forward stuff.
A great college player who's game didn't translate into professional excellence
This year unlike his first few is he didnt look stiff! Hes young so i think he'll have a big jump this year!
Better shooting would be nice. But DEFENSE is where he needs improvement the most. His defense was horrible last year.
I would say, it's consistent shooting. As long as he is a legit threat from 3, other things become a lot easier like driving to the hoop and having high % shots or FTs, ability to pass, stretch the floor for others, etc etc.
Check again. His 2pt fg% rose last year. He needs to improve his mid range shot and he need's to take more shots off the dribble. It's been frustrating watching Barrett do straight line pull ups with no dribble momentum. One thing I was jealous of when watching Cam Thomas scoring run, was the complete nature of his scoring in comparison to Barrett. Sometimes you create your own momentum, especially when your a scorer. So it's nice to see him working on mid range and dribble pull up in the video. He's also heavier.
