That time Shaq called Chris Bosh “The RuPaul Of Bigmen”

A week before his 37th birthday, Shaq scored [45 points on 20/25 FG](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIvUY7rvkKA) against Chris Bosh and the Raptors. It was also the final 40pt of Shaq’s career.

After the game, Chris Bosh had this to say

> “He was just camping down in the lane,” Bosh said. “I mean, if they’re not calling three seconds — I thought it was a rule, but I guess not.”

A couple of days after this, Shaq learns of Bosh’s comments and responds with this

>”I’m the only player,” O’Neal said, “who looks at each and every centre and says to myself, ‘That’s barbecued chicken down there’….I heard what Chris Bosh said, and that’s strong words coming from the Ru Paul of big men…I’m going to do the same thing I did before – make him quit. Make ’em quit and complain. It’s what I do.”

Could ya’ll imagine someone saying this in an interview in today’s world lmao.

Bosh definitely endured a good deal of media scrutiny that wouldn’t fly today. Making of the way he looked, his body language being too feminine etc.

  2. everyoneneedsaherro

I’m not familiar with RuPaul. What did Shaq mean by that?

  3. RuPaul is the 🐐, Shaq talking out his ass.

If he said the Miss Vanjie of big man, then it’s a cold ass insult.

  4. cooldudeman007

Shaq was incredibly insecure back then, he still is, but he was also then

    Shaq was/is [childishly sexist](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/720434-shaquille-oneal-retires-50-most-ridiculous-quotes-of-his-career).

    > “I’m not worried about facing the Sacramento Queens.”
    >
    > On New Jersey Nets coach, Laura, I mean, Lawrence Frank:
    >
    > “I don’t think anything of Laura Frank. You heard me—Laura Frank. Not Lawrence. Laura…It’s not that I blame him, I just wish he’d go to a manly tactic and just fight me. Don’t whine. When he whines, that’s when I change his name of Lawrence Frank.”

    > Carmelo Anthony likely finds this quote about current Nuggets’ coach George Karl amusing:
    >
    > “He looks like a woman coach sometimes. I guess he’s just trying to get into certain people’s heads, but it won’t work with me. Like a woman who coaches and cries all the time. He can’t get in my head. He’s a crybaby.”
    >
    > After Jerry Stackhouse was called for the flagrant, Shaq said: “My impression was my daughters tackle me harder when I come home…It actually felt pretty good to get hit like that. Thank you, Jerry, I appreciate it.”
    >
    > Out West, Shaq really had an issue with Golden State Warrior/Dallas Mavericks center Erick Dampier:
    >
    > “He could be dominant—if he played in the WNBA.”
    >
    > “Who? Erica Dampier?”
    >
    > “I’m playing like Eric Dampier.”
    >
    > One more WNBA quote for good measure
    >
    > “The Spurs are a great WNBA team.”

Who’s the new RuPaul of big men, KAT?

  7. Otherwise_Form1315

Because Bosh is fierce and also owns a fracking ranch in Wyoming?

  8. Putrid_Ad_2256

Didn’t he also call the Mavs center and effeminate name? Dampier?

  9. MitchLGC

Different time. Skip was on TV calling him Bosh Spice.

Today any of that would get you killed in the media

  10. TreeLankaPresidente

Shaq also referred to himself as “The Big Deporter” when he was going against Vlade in the playoffs. That aged like milk.

  11. imminentjogger5

Shaq is definitely not subscribed to /r/rupaulsdragrace

So… super popular and talented and successful? Okay.

I’m in Toronto. Was going to Raptors games since they played in the Skydome. Saw Raptors beat the 1996 Chicago Bulls as a lowly expansion team.

Damon Stoudemire, ‘Mighty Mouse’, at 5’10” was a better big man than Chris Bosh ever was for the Raptors!!

  14. Sleyeme

Crazy and sad to think Shaq is literally the same person he was almost 15 years ago. Always been negative towards other players and he’s even more negative now.

  15. bt8zero

People are saying that it was a different time but that doesn’t make it any less stupid. Shit, I partook Bosh jokes back in the day, I’m included in said stupidity.

    Glad times have changed.

  16. matmortel

Lol didn’t KG call Charlie Villanueva a cancer patient? A lot of quotes wouldn’t fly today

  17. I mean.. I would just say that Chris Bosh was Alfred.

  18. gunnarbird

In his defense Ru Paul *is* a trash center, much better at the three

  19. truth_2_point_0

Real life didn’t have an HR department that works for free yet so it was fine

  20. The-Pharcyde

Shaq and being salty ass bitter hater is a tale as old as time.

  21. Sad-Flight-5139

Haha, times have definitely changed in the media! 😅

  22. Pacalyps4

Goddamn y’all mfers really soft these days. Shit talk is meant to be insulting and offensive. That’s the point.

  23. JoanieTightLips

I want to post that Chris Bosh champagne celebration gif.

  24. TinTinsKnickerbocker

Y’all doing the same with KAT

  25. BloodyAxeOfKhorne

    3. No racist, sexist, or homophobic language

Shaq : I know, I don’t give a fuck. Shaq is not allowed in r/nba!

  26. Gang_Gang_Onward

bruh all this talk about whether it was okay or not, all i know is shaq was and is fucking hilarious

  27. Dom-Izzy

By the time I started paying attention to the NBA Bosh was already retired. Was crap talk like that common to him? Seems really aggressive for a single incident. Was Shaq just an asshole like that?
