>Several teams have shown interest in pursuing Siakam via trade over the past three months, but the external market has been tempered a bit due to the fact that it’s been made clear, league sources say, that Siakam would not extend with a team that trades for him. Still, the Atlanta Hawks have been the strongest suitor for Siakam, and talks between them and Toronto were fluid and ongoing as recently as Las Vegas Summer League in July.
>Atlanta has offered a package centered around De’Andre Hunter, AJ Griffin and draft compensation to Toronto for Siakam, league sources say. But the Raptors are believed to have upped the price on any possible deal at each turn.
>For now, talks are at a complete pause, and the Hawks are fully prepared to enter the 2023-24 season with their current team, according to league sources. For now, Siakam is a Raptor, and even without an extension, he could very well remain one through the trade deadline.
>The Raptors have been heading toward this moment of truth since at least last season’s trade deadline. Although they could have been sellers, in the back half of the Play-In Tournament with four of their top five players within the last two years of their contracts, the Raptors went out and added Jakob Poeltl, surrendering a top-six protected first-round pick in 2024. They retained Poeltl on a four-year, $80 million contract in the offseason. However, they lost their starting point guard, Fred VanVleet, to a maximum-value two-year offer (plus a team option for a third year) from Houston. Offers at the trade deadline for VanVleet were not overwhelming, but losing a core contributor for no return was not the desired outcome. There were also multi-pick offers for O.G. Anunoby, who has a player option for the 2024-25 season, at the deadline, although the upside value of many of the first-round picks offered is believed to have been low.

Please stop trying to give away the future for a one year guy. 🙏
I don’t believe his reporting
Raptors leaked this shit to gain leverage, there’s zero benefits for us to put the trade offer out there with AJ’s name attached like that. How are we this bad when it comes to PR? Our front office is clueless at using/controling media narratives, and Trae is constantly getting bashed on social media. I am honestly sick of it…
Giving up AJ without a signed extension from Siakam is a no for me.
Despite everyone wanting to hold onto AJ, he is a valuable asset that deserves a better return than rental Siakam.
I dont believe.
Fuck
I have no clue how true any of this is but if the Hawks trade AJ Griffin I’m going to feel seriously sour towards this team for a while. Especially for Pascal whom I really don’t think is that strong of a fit with us
This trade package is nothing new. That’s been in the atmosphere for a while, even on Brad Rowland’s podcast a week or more ago.
That doesn’t make sense for the Hawks unless you believe that we would sign Siakam onto a future contract or we are strong enough to win the Finals this year.
I believe the Hawks offering this trade package is smoke. And I really hope I’m right.
Obviously Siakam is great and I’d love to have him on this team, but considering his contract is up and he’s determined to not sign an extension with anybody and get the super max (understandable), you’ve gotta hold firm on value. Worst case, you call again during the deadline and the Raptors will probably move him for pennies on the dollar compared to what they’re asking for now.
The current package is pretty solid for the Hawks, and even adding one more young player might be just fine. Hunter’s contract is kinda meh and getting out of it is good for us. AJ is great and he will be missed, but he’s kind of buried in the rotation now to begin with so Toronto might give him a better opportunity. Picks-wise it’s kinda up in the air, but trading the Sacramento pick and a 2029 1st might be fine.
Honestly let’s ride with what we got now
The noteworthy thing for me is that Capela is not in the package. I had assumed at this point that the Hawks were offering Capela and not Hunter as the money matching component and that the Raptors were having trouble finding someone to take Capela.
