this is facts. to me your number 1 option has to check all these boxes; 1. versatile scorer who can get it from virtually anywhere in an offensive set. 2. you should be able to playmake and create for others around you, your shot isnt always gonna fall and when it doesnt, are you able to make the right passes? 3. you need to be good defensively, there is 2 halves to basketball and defense is half of that. 4. you need to lead by example and come to work everyday busting your ass off and being a professional, being a true leader.

I seen the title and I already agree cause I've been cooking my friends with this argument. Only true first options I see rn are steph, lebron, joker. they consistently do what the team needs they can instinctively step into a number 2 or 3 depending on what the team needs that night and deliver from that role and don't mess with team chemistry. everyone that is a supposed 1 folds under pressure, jumps teams to find an easy way to try and validate their status, makes a ton of excuses… Man I've been cooking ppl these last 3 years especially when the playoffs hit with this.

While there was the Kyrie's with the Doncic's, the Durant's with the Bookers, Siakams second option was Fred. Give Siakam one of these self-proclaimed 1st options to play with and all the doubters saying he's a false first option will be think twice.

The truth is in the NBA there’s a real no.1 I could name 3 and that’s it. Steph Curry, Joker and Lebron James. They are the only players that their team is nothing without them. Not KD not Luka, not Kawhi, not AD every other team played very well without their star. And Pascal Siakam because when he is off the floor we stink too. So 4 number one. Steph, Joker, Lebron and Pascal. Every other team strives without their number one star. You can’t be number one if the team performed better when you’re not playing and that’s bring me back to us the Raptors now that the ball hugger is gone Fred VanVleet I have hope that this team will be better off!!!
