[Thorpe] “From what I’m told, Raptors players and those connected to them are in no way Nurse haters. They don’t blame him fully, and more than a few people in LA laid the Raptors’ collapse on management, in particular team president Masai Ujiri, who was not at the Rico Hines Runs.”

If this season doesn’t go well, I’m fully expecting a new front office by this time next year

  2. grapedinosour

This Thorpe guy is on a serious propaganda campaign against a team he admitted he doesn’t even watch or follow.

From what he’s told? So he hasn’t gotten any of this first hand. It’s all conjecture and speculation. What a bum. No better than a TMZ gossip writer.

And to this day Masai has expressed no accountability for the bad season

  4. Icy-Lime-9760

Boucher said in his own podcast people had an issue with Nurse and this hack Thorpe says Masai was the problem. GTFOH

Well he did say nurse was weird and that when things were rocky with the raps last year that firing nurse would be the easiest change….and where’s nurse….not gonna hate

  6. t-earlgrey-hot

Wasn’t Thorpe saying the opposite throughout last year? That nurse is a weird dude who lost the locker room?

“raptors players **and those connected to them”** so people close to pascal that are at rico hines runs are unhappy how the contract negotiations have played out and are talking shit about the front office to garbage reporters. gotcha

I don’t think it’s as simple as that. Nurse tried to run schemes that the roster couldn’t support.

In the end, I do believe Nurse did his best to win as many games as possible from the get go, but he probably should have adjusted what he was doing to give our main guys more rest and let the bench learn on the court.

It probably would have been more ugly to start, but that kind of management usually leads to trended improvement by the end.

Also, out Jak on this team since the start, and we would have been better than .500.

Why is everyone painting Thorpe as a Masai-hater? They are friends.

I’ve heard it plenty of times over the years (back to when we drafted Solomon Alabi and Masai was the Asst GM. Here’s a quote from a GQ article:

    >The competitive part of him is misunderstood,” his friend the ex-coach and current TrueHoop writer David Thorpe tells me. “People see him as pensive, thoughtful, always smiling. But when he [cursed](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cmwmTNeWxs&ab_channel=1%3A57Pictures) about playing Brooklyn? That’s Masai.

I’m so tired of this clown. Didn’t he want us to fire Nurse and hire one of his good friends last year? Earl Watson?

We are going win, and we are going to win in this city, and we are going to win again, and believe in your city, and we will win again in toronto, and we will win the win.

  12. 1. This roster was/is shit. No coach in the league could have done anything to turn this team into a contender.

    2. Masai not being at the Rico Hines Runs is completely irrelevant. He’s the President, that’s not his responsibility.

There are numerous issues within the org. All of them come back to Masai and Bobby. Masai and Bobby gave Nurse the bench mob and told him to win a title. Until they tear this team down and draft a superstar there will always be new excuses and scapegoats. No star wants to play in Toronto. If you draft a rookie and they become a superstar the incentive to stay becomes the ability to offer the supermax. Siakam is a damn good player, but he’s the 2nd option on a Championship team. His growth since Kawhi left means the calibre of superstar you need to pair with Pascal to win a title is slightly less, it does not mean that Pascal is now the 1st option on a title team.

Boston isn’t a destination city. They’re just run really fucking well. They tank, they draft and develop at an elite level, and then they keep their superstars because of the supermax. The most notable free agent Boston has signed in the past decade is Gordon Hayward. Not a hard concept to understand.

Reporting can change, feelings can change. It would make sense that now that Nurse is long gone, the player’s dissatisfaction shifts towards management.

This thread is wild. I don’t know what worse the people defending nurse or the people defending the FO. Both are to blame
