Brian Windhorst suggests that the LA Clippers have been the targeted victims of terrible scheduling the last two seasons because Crypto.com Arena has been purposefully giving them the short-end of the stick since they’re leaving to their own arena.

> Tim Macmahon: But like in terms of all the like back-to-backs and three-in-four and five-in-seven, the Clippers are at or near the top of the list… which is interesting.

> Brian Windhorst: I think the second year in a row that this– something like this has happened and…

> Tim Bontemps: Well, it’s been a long standing issue and part of why they’re going to have a new arena because they pick third when it comes to date availability at what was dubbed the building formerly known as the Staples Center.

> Brian Windhorst: Right. But it’s been particularly, I think… I hope I’m not going to get in trouble for this. I can see my phone ringing. The Lakers are at the other end of the list. Well, yeah. That’s– I think it’s been slightly worse the last two years in terms of the way the Clippers’ usage of CRYPTO.COM has been allocated. I think it’s been slightly worse because they’re on their way out. And so any 50/50 ball is go into the other direction [to the Lakers].

i would laugh at this but Windhorst sticking up for the *Clippers* is kinda wild

Is this that surprising? AEG, the company that owns the building, also owns 50% of the Kings, minority share in the Sparks and used to own 27% of the Lakers. The Clippers have always been at the bottom of the priority list of the 4 teams that play there.

What does this even mean? None of this is coherent. Is like people just have to grasp at the air in hopes that they can find content

  4. MSKOnlyScans

The difference is like the equivalent of 5 hours on the plane lol. I know that’s over simplifying things, but still…

  5. snowlarbear

yeah when you put in your 2 week notice the next 2 weeks might suck

For three decades, the Clippers had an owner that had absolutely no interest in the team and the team is still dealing with his incompetence.

He had the chance of being higher in the chain at Staples but he blew it.

    >’They negotiated with Donald. The Clippers would have been the prime tenant and therefore with the best terms, and the best choice of dates.’ – Alan Rothenberg

    >Instead of taking advantage of such a fantastic opportunity, Sterling negotiated the deal to death. As history unfolded, Jerry West and the Lakers became the primary target for Staples Center, and the Clippers became the third tenant.

Sports media really running out of narratives to work with this offseason LOL

  9. AEG owns the Arena.

The A in AEG is Phil Anschutz, who is a minority owner of the Lakers.

Maybe it’s because the owner of the Arena wants to give the team he partially owns the more favorable schedule? Not sure how much sway arenas have over NBA schedules.

Not sure if he mentions this, but whenever a team is playing a back-to-back on the road in LA, it seems like the Lakers always get to play that team on their second game of the back-to-back.

I’m not complaining but does seem unfair to the Clippers.

    So…

The sixers don’t own their building so preferences go to the Flyers.

The clips are about to move, really not a huge deal

  12. breighvehart

All they have to do to avoid this is leave LA and go down the street to San Diego. No one in that town cares about them or will ever care about the Clippers

  13. ApprehensiveSyrup647

The Golden State Warriors had the most back to back last season and they have the most again this upcoming season. So the Clippers aren’t the only ones getting screwed in the scheduling department.

As a Lakers fan there does seem to be some truth to this. Clippers and Lakers have usually had designated days when they have games scheduled. For example, Lakers typically have Sundays and Clipper usually have Saturdays, which means you’ll have a lot of back to backs for the Clippers on Fri/Sat while the Lakers are more likely to see a team after a back to back but less likely to have one themselves since Staples was booked for the Clippers games.

Would be interesting if they could do what the Spurs are doing in Austin. Just play a game or two in San Diego or even Pauly Pavilion

  16. jgroove_LA

It was never this bad till Clips started building their new arena. League isn’t helping matters.

  17. EkruGold

What the fuck did you expect? It’s the Clippers. The Mets of the NBA.

Everyone has to play matinee games and they’re 3rd wheel to the Lakers and Kings. Maybe don’t go out heavy drinking the night before a noon tip off.

  20. SpartyParty15

How many times are we gonna hear about the Clippers playing the victim card? Stop with the excuses and start performing baby bros

  21. grifter356

Sit down before you fall down, Brian.

  22. DEEZLE13

Maybe if their owner hadn’t been so cheap and got them an arena sooner they wouldn’t be having these problems

  23. Right-Beautiful7631

Kawhi rubbing his hands together like Birdman thinking of all the load managing hes gonna get away with this year

  24. PattMatricia

Don’t think that’s the primary cause of their issues, but put it on the list

  25. Paused_Toast

Well I mean… When your top 2 stars aren’t playing, you gotta go matinee instead of primetime

  26. valleykid818MD

I had similar problems living with my parents if I was planning on using the house, then I moved out.

  27. dating_derp

Bro the Warriors just got the most back to backs for the 2nd time in a row.

  28. awibasedgod

boohoo, thats what happens when you’re an unwanted tenant

  29. TheLionYeti

I mean its true, scheduling at Crypto is probably super brutal I would guess with Clippers, Lakers, Kings games as well as concerts.
