[ESPN] Nevertheless, Harden has privately indicated that his public comments calling Morey a “liar” on Monday morning had only been a response to Morey ending trade discussions with an expectation that Harden would start the season with the Sixers, sources said.

From Woj and Shelburne:

>**The league office is believed to be pursuing an understanding of whether Harden was portending a 2023-2024 hold out in violation of the league’s collective bargaining agreement — or had been referencing past contract discussions with the organization that might constitute salary cap circumvention, sources said.**

>**The Sixers informed Harden that they hadn’t found a suitable trade with his preferred destination of the LA Clippers and expected him to report to the team’s training camp in September — something that sources say Harden plans to do. Despite public speculation, Harden has made no allegations of a previous handshake agreement with the Sixers on a future contract.**

  1. Wanted some more chaos with my coffee. Disappointed.

    (On the east coast).

Does Morey make any buckets? They should let him go, simple.

The way people have ran with this is embarrassing. They want the Sixers to be punished so badly they won’t even consider the alternative.

We basically are seeing an NBA team get reinvestigated for something of that they were already proven no wrongdoing was found. All because the public and one disgruntled player have made noise.

  4. Sartheking

Exactly what I thought lol, don’t know why everyone was so quick to jump to the conclusion that there was some illegal promise for an extension that Harden was stiffed out of.

  5. PessimistSixersFan

That felt very obvious but folks ran with the more chaotic assumption that it was about a contract

  6. DoncicsRoadTo200kg

This is the less considerably funny outcome

The fact that this “private” convo is leaked shows James is making sure the NBA can’t punish his ass 😂.

  8. FultzShoulder

Nah, r/nba was adamant that it was the handshake deal about the contract. I bet they think Harden is lying.

Can somebody please translate this headline into English for us English speakers?

The handshake deal could have still happened and Harden doesn’t want an investigation

Creating that level of drama helps him reach his goal is being traded. An investigation makes him look like a “bad team player” in the eyes of other teams.

The flex is all he would need to get his point across.

People need to look at what the parties involved in this situation want. Harden has always wanted more money. If he were to sit out, it would cost him more money which is the exact opposite of what he wants. The idea that he would simply not show up never seemed credible.

Woj is a 6ers FO mouthpiece. If this is really from Harden he would have publicly clarified it. Morey is scrambling to keep his job and some semblance of dignity from this saga

  13. Bum ass choke artist. He signed the contract willingly. Either play or retire.

  14. Bahamut727

Morey and the Sixers would be stupid to just give Harden away to the clippers

It’s not going to repair any relationship, and it’s not going to help the Sixers image much if any. Embiid will also be unhappy

  15. I think everyone should stop and ask themselves that if they did have a handshake agreement would he ever willingly reveal that to an nba investigation lol? I’m assuming not unless he was already out of the league.

It’s one thing to imply and discredit in public and another to snitch on himself directly

  16. If I had no life, I’d be pulling up receipts from every idiot that fought me on this over the past week saying it was 100% about this secret backroom deal. It has NOTHING to do with that because it didn’t exist in the first place. None of Harden’s actions or the timing of his actions aligned with that being even remotely true.

The fact that “main stream NBA media” is reporting it doesn’t mean shit. These are people that literally scour Reddit for the popular 15 year old and neckbeard opinions then write pieces that will generate clicks/views/traction from these popular opinions.

This what happens when you choose to be emotional. Now he’s put himself along with the Sixers under investigation. He can walk it back but they’re still going to follow through now.
