Bill Simmons on Harden staying in Philadelphia: “Its weird that he doesn’t see that its the best situation…”

>If you just come back with Nick Nurse and you’re happy, like, I actually think they could be the 1 seed. But, he could also torpedo it and it could be a disaster. What is the better situation for him? You’re going to go to the Clippers and play with load-management Kawhi? You’re going to play with this goofy Clipper team that’s never done jack shit? That’s a better situation than playing in Philly with Embiid and Nick Nurse? I don’t get it. I think its really weird. Its weird that he doesn’t see that its the best situation which makes me not trust him as like a basketball entity-where does he want to win a title? I don’t even know. Because if he wants to win a title stay in Philly.

I’m having a hard time understanding what he means by “Clipper team that’s never done jack shit” when with our best player out we went farther than the Sixers have in over 2 decades.

i think its more of an ego thing than a basketball situation thing for him, i could be wrong though.

If the lie Haren was told about a quick trade after an opt in, what is Harden’s original reasoning for wanting to leave? 🥸

he’s probably just big mad the clippers choked in the bubble and “let” the lakers get another ring

Clippers have a higher ceiling but unfortunately can’t rely on Kawhi and PG to stay healthy for a whole playoff run. Not that it’s much better with Embiid, but if all players stay healthy the Clippers would be his best chance at winning anything in his career. (Would love to see him, Russ and PG win their first ring together ngl)

if he cared about best situation he would’ve stayed with the nets

  6. JAhoops

Isn’t it obvious it’s not about the best situation

  7. KingNephew

Clippers is far better because you can get hurt all year long, miss the playoffs or choke when you get there without any accountability. Plus you’re in LA.

If I’m not getting a long term deal in Philly and was only getting offered a short term deal then I’d rather just be in LA than Philly

The Kawhi/PG Clippers went to the WCF.

Philly hasn’t gone to the ECF since 2001.

Why does Harden — who says he doesn’t want to play for Morey because Morey lied to him — not want to play for Morey??

Its weird that after Harden took a pay cut so that Embiid could play with PJ Tucker like he wanted and ownership could duck the luxury tax that we’re now at a place where Harden has drawn a line at bending over backwards to accommodate Philly

I don’t get how Philly is a great situation to be in to win a title when they strictly got worse this off season. I like Pat Bev but they have so little wing depth or versatility on this team. There is nothing about them that suggest they would be the #1 seed imo.

My favorite part about this pod was Bill saying “NO I DEBUNKED ALL OF IT HE THOUGHT HE WAS GOING TO HOUSTON THERE WAS A BIG ARTICLE ABOUT THE LOVE AFFAIR” as if it wasn’t his company that put out that article & that he hasn’t tried relentlessly to paint Harden a certain way all these years.

  13. atlfirsttimer

Big Bank Balmer has the money to actually pay him

  14. SirFunktastic

It’s cute that Bill thinks Harden cares more about winning than he does about getting a big contract.

  15. Pal__Pacino

Bill used to be all-in on the Clippers and now that they’ve scorned him multiple times, he’s overcorrecting his dismissal of them.

  16. Icy-Lime-9760

People really think guys want to go to LA for the team lol. It’s the city.

  17. SoKrat3s

What I don’t understand is that it seems like Harden has wanted out of Philly since last December. He leaked those rumors just 10 weeks into the season. Then he opted in and requested a trade as soon as the FVV deal was announced.

  18. Simmons absolutely hates the clippers. It’s been that way for over 10 years on his pod. He goes out of his way to throw digs at them and if they have a nice run during the season (when he has a weekly nba pod), he’ll just ignore it completely.

  19. WernerHerzog69420

He hates the Clippers and has never taken them seriously, which is cool because people shouldn’t take Bill Simmons seriously.

  20. SpicyP43905

I thought this was Ben Simmons for a second.

  21. The_Brady_Crunch

That’s fine but you cant say the Clippers have done jack shit when they have literally done more than the wet noodle Sixers. The Sixers havent made it out of the second round and the Clippers have made the WCF beating actual teams not the dog shit that is the East low seeds.

  22. souttous

Bad take by Bill. The issue isn’t the on-court situation. It’s the sixers org blatantly lied and disrespected him.

  23. yougotthesilver12

Yes OBJECTIVELY Philly is a solid option in terms of being able to win. I still think the Clips are just as good if not better situation. The problem is that according to Harden, Philly lied to him, handled his situation poorly. That’s it. Doesn’t matter if the fit is objectively good. His principals are taking the higher priority

  24. ThaEyeTest

Its sad that the NBA pundits are the only people saying its the best situation. Harden clearly does not believe in Embiid the most recent MVP. The Clippers are a better situation for Harden, if the Clippers do not have to give up alot. Norm + Batum and a 1st rounder should be enough but hey what do i know

  25. SFWzasmith

Ah yes Bill Simmons carrying water for Daryl. Not at all surprised.

  26. Huge-Split6250

Simmons is obviously missing the point, which is that he wanted an extension and didn’t get it, and now wants to be with a team that will extend him.
