Bad move by the Mavericks to let go of McGee when you could have got something out of him in a trade. Now you have to pay Javale dead money and you're gonna bring back Markieff Morris who rarely played last year with the Mavericks. Dumb moves by an organization organization when they could do much better.
Bringing back Morris though?? That spot could be used for a much more interesting bench piece. Or just leave it open! Would have much rather seen them try to grab Garuba for one.
I don't mind that they are letting McGee go but is Morris really the best decision for the final roster spot? I think they could have gotten someone better.
A good decision followed by a bad one. Why Morris? He had only 1 good game last year (when he shot a couple of 3s in a scheduled loss). Why not sign up AJ Lawson to a regular contract? AJ was fantastic during Summer League – can push the ball, penetrate, shoot the 3, and playmake. AJ's young, athletic, and versatile, and won't just wait in the 3 point zone unlike Morris.
So they waste a precious roster spot which ANY young talent out there worth taking a look at could have.. for a veteran who won't be remotely motivated as he knows he'll barely play…
It was better to simply have the last spot open than bring Morris back for no reason. Does this eff mean Kidd will play Morris OVER the rookies? Probably.
