Cam Johnson has a real shot at NBA’s Most Improved Player

After an off-season that saw him get a big-time pay increase, Cam Johnson is poised for his best season yet as an NBA player and that should be a good thing for the Brooklyn Nets. Doug Norrie looks at the odds for Most Improved Player (Mikal Bridges is the leader) and how there is a clear path for Johnson to put himself in the discussion.

Cam Johnson is currently at +4000 but there’s room for him to climb. Doug looks at who has won this award historically and how Johnson is in a similar situation to some winners from the past. He looks at some of the stats supporting the case and more.

  1. If CJ and Claxton makes a most improved conversation jump then the Nets are top 5 seed in the East.

  2. If cam Thomas actually gets more playing time this year he gotta way better chance than cam Johnson ion see cj dropping more than 17-18 a game ngl

  3. Cam Johnson most impressive improvements especially since he came to Brooklyn was his ability to expand his versatility on offense. He was able to knock down threes create a jump shot make layups and even dunk the ball with emphasis 🔥…

This season it will be great to see him takeover a basketball game when necessary and just keep making good winning plays and staying in rhythm…..

  4. Simmons has always made his teammates look better. Can see Cam and Mikal thrive. If you trust everything Ben said, this team could be a real surprise next season.

  5. I'm sure Jacque Vaughn is going to put an emphasis on team ball rather than the performance of any individual player. If Cam Johnson or any player have a break out season, it will be a byproduct of the performance of team ball.

  6. GM, no other Locked On Podcast can sell optimism better than the Locked On Nets podcast. Adam and Doug have done a great job ramping up the enthusiasm for the forthcoming 2023-24 season. However, there appears to be a noticeable absence of positivity concerning Cam Thomas. A case in point: you made a statement about the potential impact if Mikail Bridges misses ten games, pondering where the scoring responsibility would fall beyond CJ and Dinwiddie. What struck me as perplexing was the omission of Cam Thomas, who happens to be the most prolific scorer on the Brooklyn Nets. You mentioned Ben Simmons as the primary facilitator, and it's worth noting that no other player on the Nets could complement Ben Simmons as effectively as Cam Thomas. Their contrasting styles on the court are actually complementary. Ben Simmons isn't inclined to shoot, and when it comes to bailing him out with clutch shots to help his assist totals, no one on the Brooklyn Nets can match Cam Thomas. While Bridges is undoubtedly the most well-rounded player on the team, he doesn't excel in making tough shots like Cam Thomas does, nor does he visit the free-throw line on a per-minute basis like Cam Thomas. Ironically, those who staunchly support Ben Simmons often appear to be detractors of Cam Thomas. It's noteworthy that I mention this to highlight my surprise at the absence of Cam Thomas from your discussions when considering scenarios where Bridges might be unavailable for an extended period. Cam Thomas is unquestionably someone who can share the scoring burden, and it's a consistent omission whenever you generate optimism around various Nets players who have yet to achieve some of the feats that Cam Thomas has accomplished at the tender age of 21 as a Brooklyn Net.

  7. Not sure this video aged well as in Cam Johnson was just DNped as he has been slumping which has been one of his issues. Can he be a consistent contributor every game. He disappears a little bit too much.

  8. Can y'all make another episodes talking about the Nets future plans and their picks. I am keeps hearing Damd Dolla rumors. How about they are saving their picks for Giannis because he stated he was not signing back with the bucks if they don't improve the rosters. SO Any potential Giannis trade in the near future👀👀
