Honestly, I believe a best case season for the long-term outlook of the franchise would shake out like this:
Scoot is ready out of the gate and puts up a rookie of the year caliber season.
Sharpe makes a jump and firmly grabs the starting SG spot for good.
Dame gets traded for a quality return (not Miami's lowball offer) at some point before the deadline.
Simons, Grant and Nurk play well enough to increase their trade value for the team to get value for them either at the deadline or next summer.
The team and especially its young guys play well enough to be entertaining and competitive but still only win like 25-30 games
They land another top 5 pick and draft another potential cornerstone. Maybe Mara?
They fire Billups and hire a qualified NBA head coach.
Then, the Blazers go into 24-25 with a ton of young talent and legit aspirations of taking a step forward as a potential playoff team. Kinda like the feel going into the season for the 08/09 Blazers back in the day.
I think they can challenge OKC between the 8-10 mark because they have 1-3 year players looking for their rookie extension contracts

Phew! That was close. Look, the guy can shoot a little, but what else does he do? No rebounding to speak of… The defensive effort is not there for a big in my opinion. Doesn't really pass much… I dont see potiential in Jovic… Its just not there. Portland doesn't need a stretch big. We need a post presence that we can play some inside-out game through, not a pick and pop big that sets a screen and stands on the Arch wating for a shot. We need rebounding and Jovic consistently doesnt offer ANY rebounding. This is a direct side effect of his playstyle… Its pretty hard to crash the boards on offense when you are all the way out at the 3 point line. And defensively he seems to lose track of his man and consistently lets his mark get the favorable position on him. He doesnt find his man and box out when the shot goes up.
Trade Dame and Nurk for Nic Claxton, salary filler, and picks.
Thybulle is SG, so is Sharpe. Blazers now call the 3 guard lineups "swing up wings" (oooh, fancy new description). Jabari Walker struggled last season, Watford & Eubanks are better players. Now Jabari is tasked with taking over multiple big man spots? Glaring roster imbalance makes winning optimism difficult. Which more or less forced Lillard to ask for a trade.
Mikey, Your show more fair than others, but we have to stop talking about Dame as if he plays for the heat , Dame Lillard plays for the Portland Trail Blazers, he is contracted for the Portland Trail Blazers, until that changes we have to present content in the here and now.
