The Blazers BIGGEST LIE to Damian Lillard

For the first time in his career, Damian Lillard could be on his way to a brand new NBA franchise this offseason. A few weeks ago, it was reported that Lillard had requested a trade from the Portland Trail Blazers and felt slighted over how their management lied to him. This is exactly what we are going to be discussing here, because there’s no bigger name available in the trade market right now than the All-Pro guard.

  1. Making it sound noble to request a trade to a conference champion.

Acting like Portland owes Damian anything.

Clearly made by someone that lives in Miami, NY or LA.

    Weak.

  2. People have never wanted to go to Portland as free agents. They made trades and they didn't work out. You can't trade for a star player if the other teams don't want to trade them. Also, during draft night no trades of equal value were available because teams knew the Dame issue and would get fleeced. Stop going by the media BS narrative! While I agree that Portlands FO is not great, but saying they haven't tried anything or exhausted trade scenarios is just flat out wrong. The Blazers don't owe Dame a damn thing! He had no trouble taking their money all those years and they should trade him to whoever presents the best package to the Blazers.

  3. Lillard is the liar. He signed his supermax extension after Blazers dumped 3 starters and their 6th man to begin a longer-term plan.

Lillard signed a supermax extension with a rebuilding team because he wanted a $216M guarantee. Lillard could be traded right now if he wanted off a rebuilding team. Instead, he wanted the money.

Lillard got his money. It's time to earn it. Instead of having leverage to get a trade now, Lillard's $216M extension gives him leverage to get a trade in 2026. Or, Lillard can decline his 2026 player option to regain some leverage. He can conditionally decline his option for a trade now if it helps his trade value for Blazers. Or, he can wait until 2025 to decline his option and force a trade in 2025.

Lillard can't sell his NBA rights for $216M and take his rights back for free. Blazers didn't lie. They bought Lillards NBA rights. Lillard was an informed and well represented seller.
