Would Buddy Hield Offensive Punch Help Maximize Nets Short-Term Timeline?

With word that Buddy Hield and the Indiana Pacers will be parting waves and looking for a trade, the Locked on Nets guys get into it about whether this could be a good move for Brooklyn? The Nets will go into next season with a possible big hole when it comes to team shooting and Buddy Hield has proven to be one of the very best three-point shooters over the course of his career.

Could Sean Marks and company think about stop-gapping some of their possible spacing issues with a guy like Hield? Or is this a total non-starter because of Hield’s age and the team’s overall timeline?

  1. Buddy Hield going to Brooklyn would be a good bit of business for Brooklyn.

First the Pacers want a player in return who can immediately contribute which Brooklyn has in a few expiring contracts and they could offer some second draft picks along with Buddy to Brooklyn. Also he has a 19 million expiring contract which comes off Brooklyn's books next year. More importantly he can help Brooklyn retain some three point scoring that they lost.

It's an option if anything for Brooklyn to contemplate….

  2. If the Pacers include draft capital along with Buddy Hield that would be the main reason Brooklyn would be interested in acquiring Buddy Hield.

Also Brooklyn has one of those big TPE to absorb most of Buddy's expiring contract so there are measures to soften the financial implications of acquiring Buddy Hield.

  3. Buddy Hield, at 30 years old, doesn't align with the Brooklyn Nets' current timeline. The Nets need to keep a close eye on the situations in Portland and Miami to explore the possibility of acquiring Tyler Herro, who is considerably younger and brings more versatility to his game compared to Buddy Hield.

  4. I actually think Indiana would need to give us draft capital if you send DFS back.

  5. We have enough offense and defense…I personally don’t want Buddy…nothing against him but if that means losing DFS that’s a no. Buddy has no defense, whereas DFS is a solid 3&D guy we NEED

  6. We don't need any more guards. We have 6 on contract plus two on non-guaranteed ones. We need to keep our powder dry and not be distracted by every flashy player that become available.

  7. We have a new coaching staff and many new players. Nets fans could speculate on what they think the Nets need going forward, but no one have a clue until we settle on a roster, put them on the floor, and evaluate their performance over a sufficient period of time. If it's a challenge to settle on which players we going to go with, the instability it will cause will derail our progress. Buddy Hield is just an older version of Cam Thomas that we don't need.
