Gary Payton saw it coming: losing the “2004 Finals” to the Detroit Pistons. #shorts #ytshorts

Gary Payton himself never shied away from the fact he joined the Lakers to chase a ring. The whole NBA world was shocked after Detroit Pistons beat the LA Lakers in the 2004 Finals. But Gary Payton saw it coming.

  1. this man has no accountability šŸ˜‚

heā€™s literally the reason we lost. he was UNPLAYABLE in that series. chauncey was cooking him the entire time, and then they switched kobe on chauncey and rip started cooking him.

i love glove, but cā€™mon man. YOU didnā€™t play well that series from ANY perspective.

  2. Honestly Kobe was chuckin every shot… Shaq played well against Wallace as much as you can, Payton was done and Malone was injured. This Lakers was a wonder to get this far

  3. We loved it!!!!! We were a team. No egos. No divas. We were a team that played for each other.

  4. 2004 Pistons was equivalent on Spurs run of 2014-2015 team chemistry is just off the charts

  5. What hurts more is the fact people forget a young LBJ conquered this Detroit team by himself.

  6. Look I know casuals think Kobe walked on water but he was the number one factor in this series. Kobe went full diva and was sick of being in the shadow of Shaq's dominance. Kobe did not want to play through Shaq and instead tried to play hero ball.

By around 2008 or so Kobe had completely stopped being like that and only cared about trying to win. If Kobe had this mentality back when he was with prime Shaq they probably don't lose to the Spurs in 2003 or the Pistons in 2004. They probably would have won twice as many chips together.

Kobe has even admitted this himself and knows he messed up.
